I got you that CD ISO (its only 10.5mb) ??
qED-Quake Level Editor ISO Quot Esset Demonstrandum.zip
**At 6:30pm EST I added one of the Patches. SO if you downloaded this before.
Delete the other one and get this one instead. (2 already did)

Well- now I hope to see what the fuss was about on this CD
**Edit: I managed to find ONE or the patches on some archive.
However- I cant find the OTHER more needed one.
In case your want to search for it. Its file name is: qed_p11.exe
*Maybe* it's on another computer and you can use the Search feature
      to find it.

The exe's in what I sent you are 1.0, 1.1, and 1.1 patched. The latter one is just qed.exe. You didn't have to run an installer or anything, it was a simple replacement exe.

Oh I know- I just wanted to have it for Archive purposes. I have the 2nd patch and figured if I could find the first. I would add it and zip it and put away. Thanks Again!

Regarding the Quake Level Design Book by Matt Tagliaferri. Bad luck with the CD! But about the book itself: can anyone who has read it comment on this book?

Is it only concerned with how to use qED, or is it a more general book about level design?

I wonder how the author approached this topic in book form. And how it holds up today given that there is so much information and great help here on quakeone and elsewhere.

But I can't find a table of contents or any excerpts of this book at Amazon, Google Books, Demonoid or whereever. Used copy would be very expensive in the country where I live.

So just wondering what the contents are: is it basically a manual for qED, or is this book actually concerned with level design: i.e. how to make a level that rocks.

If I remember correctly, the book was made into parts. Obviously a section about qED, but the middle section was more general.

There were tips about difficulty and what makes a good level, for example: giving the player a choice at times, but don't make one of the paths simply kill the player. Although, there is a sort of genre of twisted games like that (I wanna be the guy, Kaizo Mario, maybe Super Meat Boy). It also mentioned some technical things, like paying attention to how much rendering is required more long halls and room, especially connected in a line.

Nowadays, design is a bit more... psychological, perhaps. I was browsing a newer book about level design, and it mentioned things like lighting the 'next' place to go to indicate where you want the player to go next. With that in mind, I'd say the book is dated, but still not bad.

Ended up with 2 Copies -Also with CD

I finally after many mishaps on ordering from amazon.com
One mailed me the book WITHOUT the CD. The other had a totally SMASHED CD..lol Maybe a 3rd book cause I know have the CD.
Its a big ass book! 300 or so pages but I would love to see this on ebook. The CD comes with the qED Editor. NOT the same as the QED editor.
did a quick effort to find the Author on FB to get the v1.0 Patch. I only found v2.0 and there are a few Matt Tagliaferris in Ohio. I know he could get me to the thing. Anyhow the book helps a lot with other Editors out there and see it as still up to date as you have to go thru these stages with common editors. Has anyone heard of Qoole Editor? There is the full 14 video tutorial and DL for it

lol, that's not a big book. It would take about 6 hours to read that, maybe 10 if you really wanted to soak it up.

342 Pages to be exact-Plus it has a lot of good illustrations. To me if the book don't have pictures and BIG letters I get aggravated. I speed read and absorb certain words -so I tend to miss many points. I have whats called a eidetic memory so pictures help! Even more if I can color them in with Crayons -LOL Gotta have my 64 Crayon box!

Seriously its a GREAT book- but I don't like how its written. It takes '14 actions' to complete a level from start to finish. That could be explained in FAR less that 324 pages. (It's very detailed!) I'm the type when I have something to do. just tell me what to do and i'll figure it all out on my own. I would buy the book if I designed more levels or for anyone else who does. The general rules apply to qED, Qoole,Radiant,Stoneless,Eloinz and so on.

For those of you out there. There is/was about 30 or so editors. Some of which the site closed or what have you. Some are 'vintage' as well. Heres a archive of hard/impossible to get Quake 1 & 2 Editors. Index of ./Quake Editors/ Well - I need to get to bed. Thinking about hitting the gym at 5:00am

I recommend you back your CD up to ISO format, and consider some permanent digital (online, cloud) storage.

Once they are all gone, they are all gone!

                            ISO link(s)

Ill do my best as I got ROYALLY EF'd over. Jumbofiles lost 5 years of files. Godaddy.com (NEVER -ever host with them!) Deleted 75GB of my files without ANY CHance to defend myself over ONE lousy complaint! SO i'll be a few days before I can attempt to recover the Links.

I made it a GOAL to never let links go dead but when 3 sources go down weeks apart. It exceeds that window of possible to impossible.. TY for messaging me so I may correct this..
