Im fine with all of the ads except the full screen ones - those ones are VERY annoying. The sounds - don't bother me much as I usually have my speakers off unless I am gaming or doing graphics (NiN's Ghosts album is the BEST for that)

I haven't heard a response yet since Wednesday. I'm assuming they may be off for the holiday weekend. As I said before, some of the video ads have been removed. There's a few more still i rotation and the full screen ads are still randomly appearing. Hopefully those will be removed next week.

firefox has an addon to remove fullscreen or skip this ad ad's if they are bothersome to people, the addon is called rip, or remove it permanently.. also another good addon is script block, however it gets on my nerves at times. how rip works is you right click and click remove iframe on the skip this ad, ad that appears and remove every part of it.

Solecord,
Thanks for stopping the auto on auto play vid advertisments. I really appreciate it. Is this costing you advertising dollars to drop those more intrusive ads? If the community is ever in need of donations to keep things running, please let us know.
Happy Thanksgiving,

The more obtrusive the ad, the more money they generate lol. That's the unfortunate world of online advertising. For now though it should be fine. If worse comes to worse a donate button can be added but everything's fine for now.
BTW, if a donate button ever was added and enough is donated, the ads would be removed. Perhaps I could implement a "subscription" system within the forums that would allow the ads to be removed if you donate a certain price.

If you implement a subscription system, I would donate. Not just because the ads issue, actually they are not a problem anymore, but what other content could be put up there that is just quake 1 / legacy quake related? What about offering 'banner' space for the donators? For example, I could make a banner for my server and mod, and maybe get more players to check it out. I know I asked you about hosting my mod's pages here a while ago, and that may be another possibility depending on the donation size? It would centralize things a great deal. Part of the problem with a game thats been around since 1996 is there is a LOT of material on the web, and growing.

lol are we back on the site ads again ? lol ok imma type this for the selective-ad people out there again use firefox, and use the adblock plus add-on, it also blocks the vevo ads on youtube, so no more watching 1 min commercials for a 15 second clipIf you want to view ads just take them out of the filters, or dont click on the block ad tab it posts over ads.

Yes, pretty much a donation would set you apart as another class of Quake fanatic, and give you some added privileges. Some web space to host your quake related stuff, maybe a Quakeone.com email addy, and the elimination of the ads on the header of the site home page....and also I think the google ads. In place of the ads, you get to create your own corresponding banner as an official sponsor more or less , and the banner can link to your quakeone space or even an offsite URL if you already have it someplace else and cant move it at the moment. For those who need help with creating a banner, there probably would be willing volunteers here to put their creative thoughts together to make a really nice one. I have seen some other sites, in fact one of my own, that does most of this and also offers flash code to be an option, tracks impressions and clicks (other than your own) in your options and settings area interface on the site.
If its done right it could make for a real feature rich centralized quake1 resource, not that its lacking in content now, but as we all know, there is alot of quake material out there. Of course, its not for everyone, and yes, time and manpower are one of the first sets of obstacles, but at least with the option to upgrade membership it gives the webmasters here some kind of reward beyond endless hours of coding
BTW, baker you done coding yet?

All that seems easy but I see a week of work here... still good for me but WHO can afford that=???? Ask yourself the question you are half done.

(Btw, I don't know if I was an intended target of your posts describing alternate ideas, but Solecord is the webmaster and the mastermind of the site infrastructure, not myself.)Quakeone.com - Being exactly one-half good and one-half evil has advantages. When a portal opens to the antimatter universe, my opposite is just me with a goatee.
So while you guys all have to fight your anti-matter counterparts, me and my evil twin will be drinking a beer laughing at you guys ...

Yea, I was quoting his reply in this thread where he bought up the subscription concept.

There's some site updates in the works... I'm going to be showing a few things to some admins in a couple of days, then I'll show some info publicly here... all ideas are being considered. There's no dumb ideas (except for selling the site to the unnamed one). If you have other ideas and suggestions please create a new topic in this forum and let me hear it
Regarding subscriptions... if that was ever implemented, what would be a "fair" amount in your eyes for having a banner be added/rotated/whatever to promote your server or mod or anything else? You talking like $1, $5, $10, etc.? I'm curious as to what others think is fair.

If I got to post a banner and got a quakeone email addy, and 100MB with no ads of any sort, Id give it a try for $25.00 donation.
I noticed too that some engines like Qrack, try to look on this site for my mod files....so in cases like mine, I would need access to those places to put the files so its easier for more players to join.

Theres alot of CMS / portal type web packages out there beyond Vbulletin, but I have been on other sites that use Vbulletin, and the admins install their own stuff outside of whats available on their home site. So I am figuring the admins / webmasters here already know that , because I think this site has some stuff that already is unique to a typical vbulletin install.
Originally posted by Q -Mark [0!0]For those really interested/serious, QuakeOne is using the vBuleltin which is fully documented at vbadvanced.com. Why not have a visit there before asking "cool" options... When I did checked I remember that there were not many options left/available
