A while back, I did a little 1-1 soldier action with Rebel of clan GP. You know what? He whipped my ass like I was a dog with a broken leg. Funny thing was, I thought I was a damn good soldier. Wrong. No one's a good soldier until they can throw grenades like Rebel. Downloading this grenade timer, by SliM, will allow you to throw perfectly timed grenades. You know that little problem most soldiers have while reloading? That problem is no more. As you shoot the third rocket in your clip start priming a grenade, and it will be perfectly timed for when you are reloading. If your opponent is the type who counts the number of shots their enemy shoots and then goes to town on 'em, this will really throw the guy off! Gets 'em every time, and I speak from experience of being on the other end of that grenade...

Those of you with Quake2 will recognize this sound as the timer on the grenade. Awesome, eh?

In for a laugh? Get this sound file of my sentry blowing someone away and me going over to finish him off by hand. Starring me as myself and my father as the d00d on the other end of the radio.

For you extremely die-hard engineers out there, I have something for you. If you downloaded the communication alias, you know what an aid to gameplay it is. If you play engineer and only engineer, you should get this file (copy and paste into a .rc or .cfg file). It is the regular communication alias, with another menu option added -- engineer commands. To build a sentry, hit F8-F2, etc. Read the stupid thing so I don't have to explain it. An excerpt from the email from the creator:

"Yes, freinds, you can now use my engineering options script as a menu in the Communications alias featured on this page. Now, you can build and chat with teammates at the same time! Simply download THIS script, communi.txt, and bind it to a key in your current CFG. DO NOT add it to your autoexec, as this file is quite large. By doing it as stated above, you can use it without crashing your quake. If people like it enough, I'll create another version for Spies, as Spies MUST communicate to be effective, just like any other class. Chris."

For non-fulltime engineers, I have left the regular alias below just in case. [Editor's note: I edited this file from its original state because it used the F9-F12 keys to use dropammo. Since this conflicted with the config cycler, I eliminated this; in addition, using the dropammo is very simple, just hit the dropammo key and you only have a short stretch to the 1-5 keys to drop what you need.]

Does the fact that your crosshair doesn't point to where your projectile will travel annoy you? It did me, until I got this file from the Quake Marines. They have upgraded the crosshair to the way it is supposed to be. I really like this. There are two versions -- the newbie and ultra newbie: newbie has the great crosshair, and the ultra newbie has the crosshair along with a player marking system -- players have a great big orange dot on their chest (not recommended for experienced players, I found this extremely annoying for some reason, as well as bordering on cheating). Download it here This is a must if you are tired of jacking around with the default Quake crosshair.

If you find yourself constantly being fragged while you stop to type to your teammates, copy and paste this file into a .cfg file in your quake\id1\ directory, and exec it from the console. These communication binds take a litte time to figure out; basically, you'll have to experiment with them to figure out what to do. Pressing F1 gives you a popup menu telling you which categories you have to select from; pressing F2-F7 will tell you which keys have commands in that category. For instance, to say "Attack Now!", you would press the F1 key for the menu (not necessary if you have the category and command memorized), hit F4 for the "Attack" category, then F5 for "attack now". The biggest problem is remembering the darn commands, so you might want to print this file out for reference until you have them by heart. This was originally created for deathmatch play, but I have modified it to my own needs. Please modify the "friendly jibes" (the last category), as they will sound very silly coming from anyone but me! :) Pleaseemail me if you have any questions or problems with this. I do have to warn you, you might want some experience with Quake aliases and binds; this file gets pretty complicated. The important thing to remember for this is that F1 is not used for anything but the menu and cancellation...so if you wanted to say the first message in the first category, you would press F2 F2. You'll see what I mean when you read the thing.

If you're like me, you're constantly having to jack around with your connection in order to optomize it. This file is a set of de-lagging aliases, which allow you to adjust your pushlatency and data transfer rate with a push of a button. Simply copy and paste them into a file in your quake\id1\ directory and exec them from the console. A list of commands available:

Go to the QuakeWorld website FAQ for explanations of these terms.

If your connection gets a little jumpy (what am I talking about, "if"), you can instantly go into safe mode by dropping your rate and upping your pushlatency. Once things are getting better it only takes a few more taps to fully optomize your connection. Please read the next section for a complete guide on optomizing your connection using pushlatency and data transfer rate.

This file is an explanation from the QuakeWorld FAQ on how to maximize the efficiency of your connection. Click on "important.txt" in the table above to read this important information.

This file allows you to cycle through a specific config for each class using the F9 key, as well as many other commands. It also comes with class-specific configs and aliases (created by Cableless) Read the included instructions before proceeding. Instead of deleting all your config files, just rename them as .bak, just in case you don't want to mess with this. Other than that, it's pretty straightforward, and you can modify these things any way you want. The reason I like this so much is that there is a lot of wasted space on your keyboard if you have one universal config; for instance, if you play as soldier and medic, and you have a key bound to switch to rocket, then when you play as a medic that key is wasted, and could be used as a medic-specific command. That is the beauty of these aliases; I think every TF player should have them. I guarantee it will improve your playing, as well as speeding it up (you don't stand there for a couple seconds, accessing the console, typing in your comand, and then getting your hands back on the keyboard in their correct positions). Enjoy, and be sure to let Cableless know how much you appreciate his work.

The reason I have you download these files from here is because there are conflicts with the communications aliases and this cycler, so I made the compatibility changes so they could work in conjunction.
