Well I haven't advertised the message board anywhere
yet, but I also noticed many of the daily visitors
don't seem to have much to say on the map topic.
I am working on a new map, but I reviewed so many
good maps lately, that I realised I wasn't doing
anything too fancy architecture wise. That is because
I like to work on a map in a certain order:
1-The Idea.
2-sketch of basic top view layout.
3-boot up that 'ol editor and start with a
particular part. I like to start with the area
which most inspires me at that momment. For
example, both The Outpost and my new map started
with the area between the bases. Just cause for
me, it seems to be a good way to easily start
working in the editor and to have some sort of
idea of the scale of things.
4-Finish 100% of the architecture (I also forgot
to mention that I like to also put the lights
from the start (light globes) and move them around
during the many recompiles, to see what effect would
work best!
5-Add the basic entities in the map, items etc..
6-Play test! (when I made my first map The Outpost,
I didn't know anyone in the TF scene, didn't have
a clan server to test it on etc.. so I pretty much
released it as best I could). But if you get the
chance, play test the map as much as possible,
before releasing version 1.
7-Add all the extras, fix the textures etc..
8-write up a good txt file
9-Upload it to the FTP archives.
10-Tell everyone about it!
