1. A defensive position is always taken because the enemy is attacking, it should never be the preferred position. Any defense can and will be broken, people will always manage to run through.
2.Groups who are overpowered in numbers always choose a basically defensive tactic. If this is the case in a game where you wander in, either dont play this game or request the bigger group to equalize the number of men. Overpowering a smaller group, e.g. 10 against 3, may give you a false sense of security on your abilities, and is humiliating when you lose. 3.In a defensive position the aims are the same as in the offensive: you want to kill the enemy, destroy his force and get into the offence. Try to disorganize his people, and force him into retreat or into standstill. 4.The purpose of sentryguns is to kill, or mutilate the enemy, but also to keep their troops busy. Use this advantage by defending sentries and using the time to get troops in. 5.If in your map you find narrow passageways or obstacles set up defense there instead of an open field. When faced with obstacles the enemy will have the same problem as you: his movement is hindered. In 2fort5 it can be interesting building a sentry gun pointing at the bridge from right in front of the enemy fortress. Many enemy operatives will be killed before they will take the time to destroy it: it is a definitive obstacle. 6.Finally, you should always keep in mind that whatever happens, a defense is only used to score the first points and cause the first moral breakdown of the enemy. A defense, if well organized, can be won, but it should never replace the offence. If you keep on defending without any offence, the enemy will probably be able to score, hard earned, points, while your scores stay low. This will result in demoralisation and people leaving the game. |
