  Playing Ludicrous TF.

9/13/99
Wow, i already got some responses, and a big one from my fellow clanmate [MA]Demogod...to read his go here... Demogod's View.

Well, most of you guys don't know me, and i haven't even been authorized to do this column, but i'm going to do it anyway because i just wanna liven up the site and hopefully stir up some of the community. Feedback for this column is essential in keeping it going, as i like to quote and or voice opinions of others to generate even more feedback. Send Feedback Here

Starting off here, i'd like to get into the big deal about the HPB/LPB differences and controversy. Yes, a lot of people have covered it, and have beaten the bush to death, so to speak, but i'm gonna do it again.
Now, being HPB myself. it should be kinda hard to have a LPB perspective on this matter, but i have many of friends who are LPB, and i have played on their computers with my configs and i must say it is a huge difference from playing on my machine. Example of this would be: (Actual tests were done here) My friend has the exact same computer i have, to the "T," yet, he has dsl while i am still stuck at 56k. The ping difference is phenomonal. He lives down the street and where he pings sub-60 i ping 170-200 range. Now, playing a familiar map, (2fort5r) I was a sniper and with my modem, couldnt hit a guy if he was standing still, ok not that bad but i could hardly hit anything moving. Which basically means i didnt hit much of anything unless the opposing sniper was standing still. Anyhow, we decided that playing against others wouldn't be much of a test, so we decided to join an empty server to which i have rcon to, and play one-on-one as sniper. Round 1 ended up being about the normal him outfragging me about 50-5. For round 2, i went to his place and he came to mine, setup our configs, and dueled again, this time i was on dsl and he was on the modem. Now, any genius will tell you the outcome of this match. I ended up with a big shutout and he never fragged me. Final score 45-0.

In conclusion, to all you LPB's that keep saying ping doesn't matter, you're pretty much wrong, if you didn't have a ping of 13 **cough**Gecko**Cough** you wouldn't be on top of every server you go to. (i'm not saying that Gecko bitches or complains, if fact, i have never heard him ever say such things, i just used him as an example). And, to morningwood of clan lust, i agree with your post on the STA board with your argument. You claimed that you have a right, since you shell out big bucks for ISDN, to be up top of the servers, and for HPB's like myself to stop bitching about ping. I totally agree and this in no way is me complaining about my ping, i'm quite content with my 56k but am switching to DSL because i want to stay competitive. I don't think HPB's should bitch at anytime about ping, except on a couple of occasions
1.) Ex: Blue team has 4-5 LPB snipers and Red team has like 1. (Yes, we know you LPB's can snipe, so f++king what, show you have some class, play another class...if you wanna snipe that damn bad, go play sniperwar or something).

There are two times i can think of when an HPB should never bitch about ping, and they are pretty obvious.
1.) Never bitch about ping when in a match, It happens and if you want a lower ping, shell out the money. If you can't the shut the hell up and live with it.
2.) NEVER bitch about ping when you try and 1on1 an LPB, i see a lot of this for some reason, and i dunno why they do it either. I see the HPB talk too much crap and end up challenging the LPB to put up or shut up, and the LPB totally dominates the HPB and the whole time the HPB is bitching about ping. To this i say, Screw that unless you know for a FACT that you can beat that LPB, otherwise, shut the hell up or shell out the money for DSL cable , or anything else that will lower the ping into LPB world.

Flames are to be expected i love them.
