Sadly the number of submissions was very low. Thus the answers about the most liked SP release are not interesting.
It seems like Question 2 was the one that made it too hard for some. Shame on you! I suggest you play ijed’s nice work as it is so very worth it. ;)

~13 hours left for your Quiz answers

Just a reminder. Don’t forget to mail me your answers. The mail address is at the bottom of the post. Don’t hesitate submitting even if you are not sure about an answer or missing one, there might be a slight chance to sneak in through the backdoor (if one question was too hard for the majority).

The Quaddicted Christmas Competition 2007

biffisthegreatest_t.jpg

In loving memory of QuakeTerminus‘ great competitions in the past.

Christmas is near and I’ve got some presents to share. But you won’t get them for free, no. You will have to answer a couple of questions right and send me the answers.

The prizes:

giveaways2007.png

There is one Quake CD to find a new owner. It comes in a digipak with manual. This one would look slick in your audio CD collection too.

One Mission Pack No. 1 and one Mission Pack No. 2. Both are german releases unfortunately but that’s only the packaging and manual. The CD and the game itself are the normal english version. They are both jewel cases.

That’s three prizes already but there is another one. I know it is a bit predictable and boring (says the proud creator, heh) but anyway: A rusty evil spiky violent metal Quake Rune. Rawr!

The questions:

1. Which of these beasty creatures is a new monster you will encounter on your travel through Travail?

a) distrans, b) Jugger or c) Night Gaunt

2. What map is shown in this screenshot? It was released 2007. The main title is enough.

3. How many seconds is the current nightmare speedrun record for e4m3: The Elder God Shrine?

4. hipnotic is Dissolution of Eternity is the first missionpack. rogue is Scourge of Armagon is the second missionpack. Is that right? I always mix it up. Tell me how it is correct.

5. Name one original Quake map on which can you find this texture:

6. Which level designer let’s you defile an altar?

7. One of every original (id1) monster are sitting in a room together. How many (functional) legs are there?

8. This is not a question like the others. Instead choose which Quake Singleplayer release of 2007 you liked the best so far. The maps are (sorted by date, backwards):

I know there might be more releases this year, thus I will run a poll early next year and somehow add the results together with some very smart calculation I will have to figure out.

Sent the answers to spirit@”thissite”.com (quaddicted.com that is) until December, the 23nd, 23:59 GMT. Please use “Quaddicted Competition” in the subject, that way the mail won’t be eaten by my spam-melting tarbabys.

I will write down the names of everyone who was right on small notes and put them into a bag. Then I will let Chthon guide my fingers to the lucky ones. The winners will be announced somewhen on the christmas days (24.12-26.12) (I would like to set a fixed date but I can’t).

Thanks scar3crow and KrimZon for their nice ideas and many thanks for Master Biff for the incredible logo!

I added a sidebar with a poll

Isn’t it nice? I spent some time to add the small box on the left. It is only tested with Firefox and Epiphany, probably it is broken in IE6. Well, oops. If you don’t like it simply block the div with id=”sidebardiv”. :)

edit: Ewww, I am stupid. It will overlap with the news on resolutions smaller than 1024×768. Duh! Anyone got an idea how to workaround that?

From time to time I will run some (hopefully interesting) polls. Please participate in the first one: What engine do you use for playing Singleplayer Quake?” I tried to limit the choice to something reasonable. Some other nice engines like QMB, Makaqu etc probably have very small userbases. If you are using a simple port of an id engine to another OS please vote for the corresponding id entry.

A question about how Quaddicted.com is being run

Something just came to my mind:

On the reviews there is no explicit “blah has written this review”. I did write “You are welcome to add your name at the end so people know who wrote. This is rather important if you wrote a very subjective description or used words like I or me.” though. I sometimes do that when I rant about a shitty map (very not-objectively).

I don’t know how other people see the site, is it “Spirit’s site” or is it “that map site where there is that map archive”? Should I add a “description author” field?

PS: Sajt’s map description generator submission thing is truly awesome. Once it’s ready adding descriptions will be a piece of cake. Actually I wrote 15 descriptions just waiting to be copy’n'pasted in there. :)
