Quake Engine Comparison
Something I had in the works for long is now in a state where I feel like releasing it. So here it is:
A comparison of Quake Engines focused on Singleplayer
Comments, critics, grammar/spelling correction are welcome.
Completeness is a matter of the viewpoint
Ahem… I compared the html files against the zip files and it turns out there are quite a few orphans. See the listing on the left, I will try to keep it uptodate with the submitted descriptions.
I am not sure about travail_soundtrack.zip. Don’t think it should be on the listings, maybe I will add a “other files” listing.
quoth2.zip is another “Hm!”-candidate, deprecated but somehow useful. I might move it to the filebase/trash folder where you can find old versions and files that turned out to be misplaced. trash.txt lists some of the reasons.
The qk* maps were not included earlier, thanks to Cetme for mentioning them.
People’s favorite release in 2008 is Travail!
Whoops, “the poll is open until the end of January“. That was a looong January.
While only a bit more than 80 people voted the result is clear:
- Travail (37%, 31 Votes)
- ijed – Warpspasm (23%, 19 Votes)
- Hrimfaxi – Breakfast At Twilight (17%, 14 Votes)
That was to be expected. Congratulations! :)
Keep in mind that a low place does not mean a map is bad or people did not like it. It’s about the favorites, not a listing.
The Singleplayer Map Archive is complete
Wow. This looked like a task for sisyphus at first. 3 years later it is done. Most of the actual work (playing maps, making screenshots, add the informations) was done by the always helpful neg!ke. Eternal gratitude is assured!
OmegaPhlare, Sielwolf, erc, Megazoid, ijed, MadFox, spd and I wrote some descriptions too. Thanks again guys.
Also Sajt must be thanked as without his fantastic script for making the descriptions we would be nowhere near the end.
I know there are a lot falsely displayed umlauts, will fix those later. Apart from that please report all anomalies or errors you encounter.
Enjoy!
Quake Singleplayer Maps – Quake Singleplayer (“partial”) Mods
Be aware that you can sort the tables by clicking on the “Author – Map – DL – Size – Date DMY↓ – Rating” header. You need Javascript enabled. Warning: It might freeze your browser for a second or two.
PS: The speedmapping packs are very low priority, they don’t count.
Vote for your favorite Quake Singleplayer release in 2007
I divided the releases into 2 polls first to rate map releases and mod releases differently. However this caused confusion and thus I merged them. You have 2 votes, use them wisely.
The poll is open until the end of January.
