  • Frag Gab: What games are you looking forward to this fall/winter?

Hey everybody, I'm back with another installment of Frag Gab! I thought that our last discussion on everyone's favorite online gaming memory was a lot of fun! Everyone had some good stuff to share. If you didn't get a chance to post on that one, you still can do so here! This weeks topic is:

What games are you looking forward to this fall/winter?

I know that we all post and chat with each other on a website dedicated to an almost 20 year old game, but I'm sure we all still play new games from time to time. Are there any games coming out from September to January that you're really excited for? Let's talk about 'em!

One last note, SlotZero is trying to raise some funding for the website and his quake servers. He's been keeping it going for over 10 years and is looking for some donations to keep it going. Click the image below to check out the donation page and maybe leave something to keep things alive! Thanks!

There are a few games I'm really looking forward to getting this fall.

Super Mario Maker was one, and I've already been playing that one since it came out about a month ago. You can build custom Mario levels in many different tilesets and styles and you can play tons of custom levels built by other people. It's basically the never ending Mario game except the levels can range anywhere from "normal Mario level" to "level concocted by some mad man!" It's great!

The other game that I'm really looking forward to is Fallout 4. I was really into Fallout 3. It was a game that really impressed me when it came out. Playing a first person shooter with all of this cool content, crazy characters and situations to make your own fun -- it was unlike anything I had played at the time. So, Fallout 4 is right at the top of the heap for me!

I hope Unreal Tournament 2015 has the game mode Onslaught ,eventually. That was the bomb diggity =) UT2K15 is where its gonna be at imo, a modern "FREE" (not F2P!) Arena shooter?

Can't beat that.....and if it can be beaten? I can't imagine what could even come close. Truthfully where I see my arena FPS fix in the future.

It is unknown how many more chapters are in this book called Quake. Hindsight is 20/20 they say!

I really wanted Freezetag to take off to be honest, that game mode was too little too late imo. That was the one =(

I did see that Source 2 is going to be free to developers, which is awesome! Have they announced a release date on that?

This is another game I'm looking forward to, and I love that it's open to anyone to play around with and contribute to. I've been waiting till it's a bit more on the finished side before I jump in, but how are things with that now? Is it fun/playable?

I have played through about half of the first Stacraft 2 release and I should really get back to that! It's fun and I enjoy it but I'm sure something distracted me from getting through it. What is the big attraction in this expansion that has everyone excited?

The Witcher 3 is a great game and I think it'll be GOTY for a lot of people. You can't deny that Fallout 4 though.

This year I will hope to pick up:
The Unchartered remasters, Halo 5 & Fallout 4.
Plus the Gears of War remaster and Dying light, which are out but I haven't bought yet.

After Chrimbo it's The Witness, Deus Ex Mankind Divided and Unchartered 4.
                      Followed by the new Doom.

There is probably a ton of indie games that will come out inbetween also.

Also there is Firewatch at some point.

You have a good list of games there Adam! I'm looking forward to The Witness myself, it looks very interesting. Also, I'm very psyched for a new Deus Ex!

I'm going to add another game to my list for this fall though, which is Star Wars Battlefront. This game looked cool to me but it really wasn't on my radar for buying day one because while I do like Star Wars, I'm not an uber fan of it or anything.

However, after playing the beta last night, I've changed my mind. This game just feels and plays great! My favorite thing might be all of the gadgets stuff, like the jump pack, turrets and grenades. Plus, shooting people as an AT-AT is a lot of fun . The beta may have swayed me to grabbing this when it releases. I recorded a video of my first couple of rounds of it last night:

The Witness - god I can't wait for that. But Blow isn't initially releasing it on PC, is he?

Unreal 4 looks promising, but I was upset to see that they're already creating the same old fucking maps from all the other Unreals and from Quake. Same deathmatch variations. Same weapons, same gameplay. Same same same.

I saw freezetag mentioned somewhere - that mode is awesome. It's the only mode that I play in Q3/Quake live.

Doom 4 looks fun, but otherwise there's nothing really. Game studios are run like Hollywood now. Most are ran by bourgeois egocentric academic bores who are completely clueless about games, about what is fun, and about originality. They daren't take risks and when you combine that with rabid fans, you get a recipe for mediocity.

I look forward to 1 game approximately every 3~5 years now. Atm, that is The Witness. Currently I'm exploring DOS/Win95 games and the Sega Mega Drive catalogue. I'm also playing through the whole C&C series from Tiberian Dawn to RA2. The newer ones are shit and I'll skip them.

Look how unoriginal Starcraft 2 is. And people like THAT! The only RTS game that evolved the genre was Company of Heroes 1, and only mildly. They always get into the same old thinking - oh lets make it look pretty, cos that's what STRATEGY fans want first and foremost. Pft, I digress.

From what i read, The Witness is coming to PC and PS4 first.

Since you're not a big fan of contemporary games, what are the most recently released games that really got you excited?
