I desperately need to do something with stats output or an engine-side player database. Or an external .exe to collect stats to html output. Alot of stats engines i find out there are limited, or skewed towards the player that has more time equals better stats. Back in the 1980s i was into BMX racing, and each month the "association" sent out a points standing. It meant the more u raced the more points you gained the lower your number plate for next year would be.
In Quake though, imho stats should be an overall average of key points, and frags not being the leading determinant. Eh, this should be discussed on another thread...

If you can have the server somehow accumulate players' stats based on IP, then create a board here where stats are sent directly to the website somehow? At least the stats on IP would be a start, server to website would be more complicated. It would definitely add a nice command though if someone could go on the server and type "monthstats" and see where they're ranked.. something along those lines

The only way to really do it is have an account somewhere which could uniquely identify you, that you could log into with quake, regardless what IP/Name you use in game. The trouble with gathering information from servers today is both IP and Names change from day to day.

Yes and the QuakeC can Frik_File can make the stats written to file.

Then it just becomes a question of how the stats get back to you.

Ya the stats don't have to show top fragger as #1 player.. I seem to remember a player on mplayer with 60,000 frags but 20,000 deaths so he wasn't near #1.. but even ofer have to exe a file you can download from quakeone.com to be "rated" I think lots of people would do that..

The writeup is a tad delayed, been busy.

Well ... that kind of destroyed your writeup on Spoon by doing that, didn't it?

That's ok, obv it would be good to archive but it's not a big deal, the majority of Quakers already read it..

Well ... I'd like to archive them. I like these and feel that these kind of things should be preserved. I think you emailed me the .doc file of the Spoon one. I have a lot of things on my to-do list but I'll end up archiving these.

                                Akinyle:

While the upcoming pieces may not be as elaborate and long as the first one, it doesn’t take away from anything I write about the players in any of my write-ups.

Akinyle has largely gone under the radar for quite a long time in Quake, always hovering as a mid-tier player going unnoticed on scoreboards. However, there is a major reason why I’m listing him as one of the upcoming players in 2010.

Recently (as of a few days ago), I had a chance to play Akinyle in a 1 on 1. It seems every few months, I get a chance to play him and he improves tremendously from the previous time. While Akinyle may not be a monumental 1 on 1 player, he has excelled in team games (DM and CA alike) and continues to hone his underground ninja skills in DM TG.

There is a subtle and skillful difference between the Akinyle you see now and before, Akinyle represents that Honda which got a $6,000 super-charger; all the changes are under the hood, not aesthetic. The major difference between today’s Akinyle is his in-game understanding and aim. Akinyle’s shaft has really improved, I believe DM TG is a major reason for improving player skills’ as they have nothing else to rely on but a sole weapon most of the time, and it’s done marvels for Akinyle’s shaft. If he played consistently, I’d go out on a limb and say he has a top 5 shaft in CA.

While Akinyle has great adaptability in team games (such as understanding how to handle RJ’ers by exercising patience, pre-firing, sitting in the right spots – area control, listening for sound), he seems to struggle in 1 on 1 situations. Akinyle doesn’t always grasp when to be aggressive and when to lay back, he is often over-aggressive to get the kill and he worsens his position and percentages by doing so. If he plays to his strengths (patience) and tones down his over-aggressiveness, then he should begin to dominate and enter the elite of Quake players.
In my experience DM’ing on his team, it felt much easier than playing with most other DM players, his map control skills and patience really help for someone with a lack of DM experience relying on pure aim (me).

As of right now, he is just about as good a complimentary player as you can get in Quake, he is the guy you want on your team if you’re looking to win games, but for him to ascend into the next level skill wise, he’s going to have to trust his aim more and continue utilizing patience + aim instead of trying to overkill when he becomes impatient. If he continues to develop his intuition and feel for the game, he will undoubtedly become a great Quake player.
