    @Phenom: I have always used a router connected to my cable modem, and used a software firewall, at the time it was Sygate personal firewall 5.5 I believe... could I have been "hacked" just as easily?

    Any time I went to "shields up" I always got the "stealth mode" validation and thought I was okay?! Just curious...
    Name's damage_inc, and killing is my business. Don't worry though, it's nothing personal! Oh wait... maybe it is

      Taking necessary precautions and keeping your software uptodate helps. But never underestimate the sheer stupidity of some people when it comes to computers.

      Shields up is a cool tool for checking how your routers functioning on the WAN definitely but just because one source gives you a thumbs up or green light doesn't mean you're 100% completely safe.

      The only "100% secure" computer is one that is turned off, un-plugged and locked up.

      I know this one person who had me drive across town to fix their PC because it wouldn't "turn on"... I showed up, looked at the monitor and turned it on, problem solved.

      Some people need not worry much, but there are PC illiterate PC users out there believe it or not!

      Can you believe it!? Someone who doesn't know how to code their own html site?

        Yeah, we all have those man! My ex's Mom told me once her sound stopped working after I fixed her printer problem, I drove over there to plug the speakers back in that she unplugged with the vacuum cleaner!!!

        I don't ever worry 'bout being hacked... I know how to install/reinstall or just run from a damn CD/DVD disc. I've never used virus software in my life. It's almost as bad, maybe worse, as having an infected computer

        Heyyyyyyyyyyyy, I don't know how to roll my own damn HTML

            depends on what your using the system for. For quake 1, xp would be your best bet, I have win 7 64 , and its fine for my music audio, but win 7 has a different mouse feel for pointing 1 to 1 ratio, the mark c fix doesnt really make mouse movement feel like xp, also there is no poll rate adjuster program for win 7, or at least that i know of,
            I have used poll rate adjustment for older mice such as mx518 and ms intellimouse, set to 500 hz,

                    based on my pattern of upgrades Win95 ->Win98-> Win98SE-> (Skip Anything here?) 2kpro ->(Skip Anything here?) XP (Skipped Vista)-> Win 7 -> (Skipping Windows 8 ) -> Windows HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM..

                    Wonder what that will be called.

                          I just noticed Planetnine voted for Windows 95, hahaah wtf Troll vote!

                          It was bad-ass for its time but I definately wouldn't ever think about labeling it anything other than most innovative Windows version, or most dramatic upgrade (Windows 3.* -> Windows 95 was a unbelievable transformation of the gui, and had that bitchin free Pinball game with it.

                            -"I hear you're lookin for a pinball game."
                            ~"Yeah brah, win95 style."

                            {reaches in jacket pocket}

                            -"I might have what you're looking for."

                            {Mindz takes a huge bong hit}
                            ~"Wait, what are we talking about?"

                            {grabs Mindz by shoulders and locks eyes}
                            -"Stay with me, man!" {schmack, schmack}
                            -"I think I have the game you are looking for."

                            ~"Yeah, but it will never work on my system. That game is OLD."

                            {pulls hands from pockets}

                            -"Are you sure? I have this."

                            {produces this}

                            -"You never saw me."

                                Fortunately, I missed the abomination of computing that was Win 3.*! I may never have recovered from that.
