  • Turning off Gibs/Dead bodies GLPRO

Does anyone know the console command(s) (if there are any) to turn off gibs/blood and dead bodies in the GLPRO client?

The reason I'm asking this is that I am running on a fairly old comp, amd athlon 750 mhz (hoping to upgrade to amd athlon 64 2.2ghz), 384 mb RAM (upgraded from 12, nvidia geforce fx 5500 256 mb (upgraded from ati rage 128 64mb). I've already used gl_picmip 2, and gl_playermip 999. I still get a little bit of frame loss in big firefights. My pq_maxfps is set to 100, and the resolution is 640x480, which I have no intent on changing.

Are there any other little tweaks like those mentioned in the first two paragraphs that can squeeze out a few extra frames??

    Thanks,

    Monster

well removing the glow and the smoketrail on ur rockets and grenades will help but that needs changing the rocketmodel and will thus be considered a cheat in case u want to play on a cheatfree server...

There isn't a way to turn off gibs or deadboies in GL ProQuake or Win ProQuake.

      In JoeQuake/QRack there are cl_deadbodyfilter and, I think, cl_gibfilter.

The goal of ProQuake was to make a faithful Quake that was not an advantage over any existing clients as the author considered any changes to an engine that offered that kind of unstandard functionality to be a cheat (even if a mild or trivial one).

I think both CA and CAx mods -- which are the only mods other than CRMOD which would be something someone would likely run in cheat-free mode anyway --- have built in gib filters to enhance play.

You might consider running JoeQuake 0.15 with -no24bit which is more or less ProQuake style with no fancy graphics or effects (except it doesn't have IPLog or Loc file support).

750 mhz? 384 mb ram? Monster, I thought u had som 3GHz HT processor, and 1.5 gigs ram? What happened to him ^^
And... my god... slowness... in Quake? With 750 nhz and 256mb card?!
        Scan for viruses boy, SCAN!!

Although, it may be possible. I installed Quake on my grandparents machine if I ever got really board while I was over there, and they have 256mb ram, no video card, and 500mhz... and I get like 20 fps in winquake, meh. My old pentium II 233 mhz ran QuakeII better...

I don't have any viruses, I'm sure of it. I just hooked this computer up less than a week ago. I have the other ownage comp, this one is hooked to it in a LAN. I play on this comp when someone else is using the ownage comp, so I'm trying to configure it so I can play just as good as on my other comp.

Thanks for the advice baker, but I just don't feel like switcing to joequake and having to configure everything else again. I guess I'll have to get used to some of the fps loss. When I upgrade to a 2.2 ghz processor, then I can jack the graphics back up and I should have no problems.

I also am using -heapsize 128000 in the command line, and -zone 1024 in the command line. Should I possibly lower the heapsize, since quake would be using 1/3 of my total memory? Maybe it would smooth out quake?

AFAIK, the only way to filter bodies and gibs is in the QC...

And 128meg is a little excessive, but you shouldn't need to lower it. The recommendation for Quake 3 was 3/4 of your total memory.

Also note that DarkPlaces allocates memory dynamically, so you don't need to specify -mem or -heapsize.
            16:03:04 <gb> when I put in a sng, I think I might need nails
16:03:30 <gb> the fact that only playtesting tells me that probably means that my mind is a sieve

Monster, do CTRL ALT DEL and check processes. Close out IM programs or any silly apps that use the internet.

I have 2002 Dell with a GeForce2 and you have a newer computer and a newer graphics card.

You should NOT be having an issue with GL ProQuake and gibs. That's just ridiculous on a modern computer.

I use ProQuake a ton because .. well ... mostly it's in a folder that I don't mess with experiments and building things.

And using JoeQuake 0.15 with -no24bit is just as powerful and fast as ProQuake on a non-cheatfree server and supports all the same commands (bestweapon, etc) and has ping in the scoreboard just like ProQuake.

Btw ... my ProQuake command line ...

"C:\quake\glpro.exe" -nocdaudio -noipx -iplog -width 640 -height 480 -bpp 16 -dinput -gamma .65 -zone 8192 -iplog -heapsize 24000 -condebug
ProQuake does not need a huge memory allocation, mine is 24 MB. It doesn't hurt to set it to 128MB but it doesn't help either.

(Why does QRack no longer have ping in the scoreboard? It did a year ago?????)

Baket, try pq_scoreboard_pings 1 or something of the like.

Before I play quake, I usually shut down Yahoo and AIM. It doesn't seem to help whether I have them on or off when I'm playing though. I can't find any other bad stuff in the processes, besides windows update (haven't tried turning that off yet), volume control, some windows activation thingie, adobe photo downloader, windows messenger, nvidia settings, virus protection, mouse software. Ok, maybe that is a lot of crap. I'll try deleting some of that stuff and see if quake runs any better.

                  Thanks for the help guys

No matter what I did, I still could not get glpro to run smooth...

But now, PROBLEM SOLVED!! I tried winquakepro (not gl), and everything works great. I don't even have to use d_mipcap 10 or d_mipscale 10, and I still get smooth framerates at 60. Now I should be able to get to my maximum power on this computer... * laughs evilly*

Now I have another weird problem... I have r_drawviewmodel 1 set in my autoexec.cfg, but the weapon model still doesn't show up in the game.

For testing purposes, I ran wqpro like usual, and typed in r_drawviewmodel in the console, and sure enough, "r_drawviewmodel" 1 appeared, which is what it should be, but I still don't have a weapon model...

The weapon model actually helps my aiming, so does anyone know of a fix??

In ProQuake, I think the weapon model disappears at FOV > 103.

Check your FOV. If that doesn't fix it, post back.

My fov is 101, and I still have the problem. :\

My resolution is 400x300, could this have something to do with it?

It could, you might consider posting your config if you can't figure it out.

I tried changing the resolution to 640x480, but I still had the same problem. Here is my autoexec. cfg:
