Sorry this whole SOUND issue isn't my speciality but atleast me know the info now

I'll attempt to help you after work today (7 hours from now) if you're still having trouble. r00k or Jozsef might be able to help.

I think this is the default sound settings but I'm not sure. Just got this from a quake console commands site:

        1 stereo
        32768 samples
        0 samplepos
        16 samplebits
        1 submission_chunk
        11025 speed
        0x0 dma buffer
        26 total_channels

edit: is it just quake? can you play music, etc fine?

I've never had this problem in ProQuake or even heard of a sound issue with it, actually, but here are a couple of ideas because your command line using some less common parameters.

Try changing your command line to the following:

          c:\quake\glpro.exe -width 640 -height 480 -bpp 32 -nocdaudio -noipx -heapsize 32768

A lot of the things in your command line are redundant. If this command line fixes the problem and you want a higher resolution, use 1024 x 768 x 16 or 1024 x 768 x 32. Also, I don't know if it makes a difference for performance, but memory allocation is typically done in multiples of 2 (so 32768 instead of 30000). Minmemory ... I've never even seen it used in a command line, I don't believe it is necessary.

800 x 600 just doesn't work out very well for Quake regarding console stretching.

I only came across that problem when I was using a voodo card. And that was only when I had almost fried the damn thing from heat exhaustion I wasn't even overclocked but my system needed another fan I guess. Live n Learn. But the sound would be crackled and sporadic. Skip in and out like a major lag issue. But.. this issue also happens on some of those lava lag maps and that IS due to lag. Try Bakers settings and see if you still get it.

The only time I've ever seen this with ProQuake is when a computer is low on memory due to a lot of things being open when Quake is running (other applications, etc.)

i tryed your setting baker and it didnt work but thanks
i have no idea what it could be
maybe it is a video card problem cause when i played quake 3 my video card would always overheat causeing my computer over heat.. maybe it just did it one too many times.. but still.. my quake 3 still works and my sound still works as well.... really the only thing that my sound is distorted in, is quake 1...

maybe ill try to reinstall and see if that gets me anywere

thanks for your help.. ill msg back to let u all know if the reinstall worked or not

                thanks

what's your FPS?! I know it's an odd question but low FPS causes sketchy sound.

Sorry you are having this problem. There are some here (R00k and others) that are engine developers and MIGHT have an idea.

A re-install of Quake is very unlikely to solve the problem, as far as I know as there just aren't very many files

If you check back in a day or 2, maybe something will turn up or someone will have a good idea.

                      You could try ...

                      1. Adding "-primarysound" and seeing if that does anything.

                      2. Or trying adding -snoforceformat

I have no idea what these do exactly, but they might do something.

Hey, try the quake sound resampling project. It's kind of a far-fetched idea and a longshot, but sometimes you get better reseption from the TV if you hit it with something LOL
teh edit: unzip to a folder you make in your desktop. Nothing special, no particular name. Rename the Higher Frequency Quake Wavs (all 44KHZ).pak to pak3.pak and the Quake Sound Conversion 44.1 KHz 16Bits.pak to pak2.pak then unzip to your quake/id1 folder.

                            hmmmm!!!

my fps is about 530 with the timerefresh so i dont think it is that

the weirdest thing is that when i change my pq_maxfps to a higher level it gets better for a period and then worse..

What is your pq_maxfps? Anything above 150 is usually unnecessary and beyond the ability of the human eye to detect.

Do pq_drawfps and what is the average FPS you are getting?

This may very well have a great deal to do with your problem. If you set pq_maxfps too high, it can cause very adverse issues with ProQuake (perceived intermittent lag, engine choking, other bad performance in general).
