  • Quake hates Windows 2000...

At least glpro does. I'll be trying some other clients, but at least in glpro I get some very coppy, "fuzzy" sound... I made sure I have the correct audio drivers installed, straight from Intel's website. Using onboard sound on an Intel D865PESO motherobard. Glpro worked fine in Windows XP. I already tried the sound resampling pack, that was no help...

Too many people have historically used Quake with Windows 2000 for it to be the operating system itself, I would think.

ProQuake doesn't have any changes to the sound system over GLQuake.

At least this is my line of thinking.

I tried both Qrack and Darkplaces, no help; I know I installed the right drivers, I was just playing some music...

Why are you using 2k anyway? It's a server OS

I've had no problem with sound, and i use win 2k.

Proquake 3.50 works fine. Glproquake that is, Prowinquake runs way to slow with the newage graphic cards.

          Should work fine though.

Maybe try, adjusting your soundcard Settings in the control panel.

Under: Sounds & Multimedia / Audio / Advanced. Set your audio card settings to best.

Might just not be set to best, and thus your hardware it self is the malfunction.

          ^_^

            I guess it's not W2k
Intel onboard-stuff simply sucks (like mine)

try -wavonly in the command line, maybe that will help.

I'm one of those people,I used it flawlessly for about 4+ years.

Windows 2000 (and Win2kPro) is simply Windows XP without the "Bells and Whistles"

Well I'll admit to using it, but only for 5 months or something and Win98 was still my primary OS.
And I didn't have any problems with Quake (I was using winquake at the time).

Because Quake whas designed with a Client-Server architecture. And Windows NT whas designed for the Server role. Quake run very well on Windows NT 4.0 and on Windows 2000.

Windows 2000 is like the perfect machine to run a Quake engine.

Of course, nowdays everybody and my dog debug and test engines on XP, so there can be new bug added that only W2K machines can see.

Actually quake 1/2/3 are one of the few games that run NT4.0,because Nt4 doesn't support direktx (it has a kind of integrated directx but it conflicts all newer versions) and quake 1/2/3 need opengl. (allthough the quake missionpack installer told me about ten times that quake doesn't run under winNT )

                          Hi Foq,

I had a large number of Intel boarded systems a year or 2 back and, following advice from my supplier, installed the Intel Performance accellerator and the Intel Chipset Software Installation Utility and INF Drivers which resolved some of the issues. Note : The INF Chipset Drivers must be installed before installing any drivers. If you load any drivers (especially graphics drivers) before the INF chipset drivers, it is recommended to format the hard drive & reinstall the operating system again.

If you are using the on-board audio, perhaps try Installing the SoundMAX* drivers provided in the Express Installer driver installation CD.

If issue persists; maybe download the latest ADI (1885?) SoundMAX audio drivers.

                          Hope this helps

                          Kind regards
