  • Says connection accepted, but just sits there

I've installed Quake on a new computer of mine.

Everything seems to be working fine but when I go to connect to a server it says connection accepted, and then it just stops, and sits there. Absolutely nothing happens.

It does this on both winquake and glquake. Also running on Windows Vista.

Any help? It SHOULD be working, I don't understand what's wrong...

Somehow it managed to get through on the 71.58.131.69 FvF serever once, but I can't get it to work again....

Oh yeah I'm using an internal dial-up modem, if that helps.

I should mention this is a seperate issue than the one in my previous thread.

Use ProQuake and you won't have the problem.

        ftp://ftp.runecentral.com/quake/engines/proquake/3.50

wqpro is what you want if you want the winquake look or have to use it for some reason.

                "connection accepted"

Got same problem..."connection accepted" when im using a direct cable connection.
                Then, nothing...
                My ip is then "192.168.1.9"

Ive tried all clients, same problem. Tried -ipxxx.xxx.xxx.xxx no diff.

Here comes the tricky part, if i connect through the netgearrouter via cable, its the same problem. BUT if i go wireless, then i connect right away, and are able to play.

So, y dont i play wireless? coz, the negotiation, also known as vista-lag makes me go nuts...

Aww Stalkie, still the same problem ?
I'm sure there will be some bright bod in here with some ideas.

                    Gooood Eeeevening!

                    Hej : o )

Actually, using my wireless conn regarding the vista-lag, it got reduced by changing it to 80211g instead of 80211a/c/g.

I've tried Wlanoptimizer and vista anti-lag.
                    No help either...

                    Kill kill etc...

I don't have any familiarity with direct connection cables (although I have one, I've never bothered using because I discovered the joy of a setting up a Filezilla FTP server and just locally FTPing my files from one machine to another over my router).

                      Anyway ...

"Connection accepted" is caused by client and server exchanging part of the handshake, but not the whole thing.

DarkPlaces is the most immune to this problem (download) because it is NAT-fixed and uses only a single port (26000). Other regular Quake clients use a ton of ports.

I'd try DarkPlaces first as both client and server and if that works|fails then post back.

After it says connection accepted, try typing "ping" in the console and it should connect.

I'd say you are officially out of options aside from going back to using your router or playing with whatever settings a direct cable connection allows.

DarkPlaces doesn't have port issues when a DarkPlaces client-server try to connect to each other and it's network code is extremely well written.

It looks like the client-server aren't successfully sending each other the data for some reason. As a result, it isn't an issue that can be resolved with settings in Quake.

Wont disagree on that, but weird is it that on same conn it works with wireless...through the same router...
