  • Mac Os X 10.4.11- Need help running Quake

Ok, I need some help installing Quake. I am using a Mac and I have no idea how to run this game, although I know it is possible.

I need to know what I'll need to get this game running, and a step by step walk-through of how to do everything I need. I tried using the dojo download but I have no clue how to get it to work.

If you are able to help me, start the walkthrough from the beginning. I can just delete the stuff I have and start again.

    It's awkward. Very awkward.

This will make it infinitely easier ...

Here is a zip I made (Quake sw for osx) containing Mac ProQuake 3.99 and Quake shareware. Double click and start; shareware levels only of course.

You'll need to find your pak1.pak (registered Quake datafile) and toss it into the id1 folder that you'll see when you open the zip.
Quakeone.com - Being exactly one-half good and one-half evil has advantages. When a portal opens to the antimatter universe, my opposite is just me with a goatee.

So while you guys all have to fight your anti-matter counterparts, me and my evil twin will be drinking a beer laughing at you guys ...

If you have a Windows CD, according to the DarkPlaces page titled "How to deal with a WinQuake CD on Mac OS X", "Find the data folder on the cdrom and copy the data/id1/pak*.pak files to your id1 folder."

I don't have a Mac Quake CD if that is what you have, I transferred mine over from Windows.

I don't have a Windows CD. I don't have anything for the game, other than trying those Dojo downloads which I don't know how to work.

Is there anywhere I can get those files?

Double click the downloaded zip file I linked you, it will decompress it and there will be a folder. Double click that new folder and it will open.

Double click on one of the 2 Quake applications in the folder and Quake will start up with all the shareware levels available.

It works! Lol, I missed the "play" icon. I feel like a complete dumbass.

Anyway, with that working, is there a free way to get the full version working with it?

Will you Zip files allow for me to play on Multiplayer?

Not legally. You could Google for the file, but you'd be on your own with that.

Shareware alone, not really. The xCTF server that you can connect to by typing "connect xctf.clan-rum.org" in the console is the only server that runs the shareware maps.

Thanks for the help on this by the way. The Share version works well enough, I think I managed to satisfy my nostalgia for this game.

but why stop there?? quake can bring infinitely more fun once you got the registered version! not only will you be able to play the full game in single player mode, but you can also get on the servers and play online! (that's where the real fun starts )

you can buy quake on steam too btw.

                          Steam is Windows-only, right?

                          /If true, that's why I didn't mention steam.

It shouldn't matter if hes using a mac client from quakeone.com. He can buy any version anywhere and just use the pak files.

I already asked this question in another thread but can someone help me install the retail version of Quake on my Mac running OSX? I'm not finding pak1.pak or ID1 in any of the folders with the retail version.
