  • SoA Proximity Mines go through walls?

    Well, as I ran the mission packs through DP, I encountered three glitches;

1: Some rubble from explosions hurt you.

2: Water bugs out when it's programmed to rise up and descend.

3: Proximity mines attach to floors with no problems, but can't stick to walls, unless it bounces off the ground first, and then touches a wall (ocassionaly).

So, is it DP, or do I have an old version of SoA that needs to be patched?

I got these errors by playing the Missionpacks via mod menu or using +game hipnotic
Using the way I mentioned should fix the error. If you also notice by running it via mod menu your Hud doesn't show the added weapons.

Really? Weird. Hopefully there is a patch for that.

Well, okay. I'll try messing around with the shortcut trick and see if it works this time.

Would you be running Quake via Steam or just simply from the Quake folder?
If from the folder, tell me the directory it's in and I'll post a .bat file for you that will run the Mission Packs for you.

          Hello Toxic Scrag,

First of all: Welcome aboard this wonderful forum.

There is one important thing that you must know about DarkPlaces.
DarkPlaces is very different than other Quake enhanced engines.
There are many many "sv_gameplayfix_" cvars in this engine, so it is able to play Quake as it should.
That is one of the reasons for many people here, not to choose this engine.
          Especially for custom fan-made maps.

All those gameplayfixes will be triggered when you start your DarkPlaces with the shortcuts already mentioned.
If you do NOT use those shortcuts, the issues begin (as you described it yourself).

Read here to learn more about it.

So dont start any of the mission packs nor nehahra via your in-game mod option.

Then, as you described it in your other thread, you can say:
          Nostalgia, here I come!

But I warn you: A fully pimped DP has not much to do with "Nostalgia"
You will find wonderful replacements here in this forum (most of them especially designed for DP).
Take your time walking around the subfolders and enjoy.
If you have problems "installing" them, you will find help quickly here.

          Kind regards,
          Seven

Again, thank you for your enduring patience, OoPpEe. Yes, I do indeed play Quake from my folder in C, so hopefully this will be easier.

If your asking for where I play quake with the DP engine (I use EZ Quake as well, but I have no idea at all on how to run non-vanilla material on it), it is:

"C:\Quake\Dark Places" Inside Dark Places is, well, you guessed it, darkplaces exe. .

As for Seven, hello! I've been meaning to PM you since day one!
Ah, so DP is more like a wad of odd scripts, eh? To be honest, the only reason I have it is for that one Quake mod I plan on downloading; that DP reload mod! There's a video of it on YouTube somewhere....

Anyway, thank you for the in-depth description you provided!

You have that spirit of gusto, I like it. I'm sure well become good freinds!

I've been meaning to ask you, where are all you guys getting all of these Quake engine facts? I've been quite Quake-less for about three years, up until now, frustrated and hopeless. Then you guys come along and illuminate the dark path I tread! There need to be more helpful people like you two in the world.

              C:\Quake\Dark Places
ok so in this you have directories like:
              C:\Quake\Dark Places\id1
              C:\Quake\Dark Places\rogue
              C:\Quake\Dark Places\hipnotic
              ?
I just want to ensure before I do the .bat file.

Yes, you are indeed correct. All folders with the necessary PAK. files.

SO, it's a matter of setting up a shortcut in the Mission Packs folder itself?

Nope, create a darkplaces.exe shortcut and add the -rogue or -hipnotic
                  so it'd look like:
                  C:\Quake\Dark Places\darkplaces.exe -rogue
                  C:\Quake\Dark Places\darkplaces.exe -hipnotic
when you edit the shortcut's properties.

Question: What version of Windows are you running?

Or are you a Mac user? Because, my version may be incapable of this path.

Try these, just simply place them in the same folder as darkplaces.exe (so for you C:\Quake\Dark Places\)

                          I'm a 7 Home Premium user.

And what do I use it with? It's just a basic file that requires something else to open it.
I tried running it by placing it on DP, but it loaded up as normal, vanilla.

Oh, is it a file that loads mission packs properly when you select it from the mod menu?

                            My bad!

It's just a standard .bat file. Windows will run it without any extra things needed (standard windows format).
Try running as administrator as I do know Win 7 sometimes needs approval to run .bat files you can also try to rename the .bat part to .cmd and see if that makes a difference.

                              [Edit]
No, it should run the mod WITHOUT selecting it from the mod menu. The mission packs will not function properly when done so - need to be booted with the -hipnotic or -rogue command
Like when I run the Mission Pack 2.bat
Game boots up Mission Pack 2, even the "demo" played is one from Mission Pack 2 and when I choose start game, loads up the start map from MP2.
