The only thing I can help on the project is giving out ideas and opinions. Like I said, I'm not a programmer. Thanks for any help you can give me.

The nailguns had different firing noises and animated quicker if I'm not mistaken..
Also, you can extract textures and sounds from N64 Roms. Sometimes the sound files will come out with the wrong pitches, but you can of course fix that with an audio editor.

Download quake64-ng-lg-snds.zip from Sendspace.com - send big files the easy way
Ripped the different Nailgun and Lightning Gun sounds - the other weapons sound the same.
Please note, I just ripped them via playing by emulator and muted music. I then recorded myself with Goldwave. I maximized the volume as it was VERY low. So if you use these without editing - they could be incredibly loud. So edit the volume to your liking and name them correctly to use ingame.

I can't make this project, I don't know how to do any of this stuff that everyone mentioned. I can't extract files, make sounds, textures and underwater effects. I can't do anything, I'm just a regular gamer. I started this thread because I wanted a Quake 64 TC to become a reality. I was trying to see if I can get people interested in my idea and make it. I still want to help but like I said, only on ideas and opinions, not programming. I gave a idea on what colored sky and music that should go on the missing levels on one of my last replies.

I'm afraid Its not often as easy as getting it taken on by others.
Just look at my 'skins for classic mods' thread for instance. I assumed it might get people inspired to get making new stuff too, but sadly It's only turned into a bucket for all my half-assed skins!
I guess its just like sergei dekker once said; 'If you want a job done right, you do it yourself...' LOL!
seriously though, the ideas are good but the implementation will come in time. I am becoming quite interested in this project and will help where I can, just wait a while and time will tell If you get more followers or if the thread gets lost to the ravages of time...
keep the faith...

I can probably rip the textures; I've likewise got a ROM and an emulator, but it's on another PC that I won't have access to for a while.IT LIVES! http://directq.blogspot.com/

Here's the texture for the blue sky, lava, water and slime.
From how the skies are done, they will have to be remade - not ripped. Just looking at the textures (over 6000 when dumped with project64's Rice plugin!) it seems the skies are about 6 or 7 small textures, whereas Quake uses a single one. Half the image for upper, half for lower.Attached Files

anyway back on topic (sorry), a good friend of mine still has a working n64 and a copy of quake.
we'll be meeting up soon so I'm gonna go play quake on it for a while and see if it inspires...

Project64 + a ROM gives the same effect
I am noticing some decent changes.
The water/lava/slime each only have 1 version and are actually just mere recolors of eachother. I got those ripped.
I got the Lightning Gun and Nailgun sounds ripped out, other weapons sound the same. If they are modified - it's a very minor change.
The monster skins are VERY low res. So keep the defaults.
Skies - I've already mentioned you'd have to make a custom one that looks like it.
Having playing through, the AI seems to be untouched overall. I have noticed they do tend to get stuck more. Maybe they had to remove some functions from the AI as if many enemies were on screen it caused a slow down?
So for the Quake 64 Mod:
The edited weapon sounds
Edited lava/water/slime
Soundtrack
are already ripped. Just need to be properly put to use.
Skies still need to be done. This actually doesn't even need to be a full fledged mod actually. The skies and music tracks can just be edited via .ent file and the ripped textures just need to overwrite the presently used ones. The sounds - just need volume edited and named correctly.
So this mod idea has much of the work ready, it just needs to be set up.

Also when your under slime, everything turns green and when your under lava, everything turns red. The beginning levels of all four episodes have blue sky and most of the levels either have red, orange or yellow sky. There was also dynamic lighting effects as well.
