So as many of you know ive been having problems with running a quake server. I run the server and my client on the same machine, but cant connect to my server. I've tried opening ports. dosen't work. Ive tried forwarding the damn port. Dosen't work. On a wierd note I tried the same thing with xonotic, which also uses 26000. It WORKS FINE! Wtf? I'm at the end of my rope on this one. The only thing I have yet to try is turning my firewall off.

Hi Sylux,

What are the command lines you've got running for each session of quake(server and client)? Are you getting any error messages? How are you connecting (inside your network with something like connect 192.168.1.2 or outside connect <yourexternalip>? If you're connecting internally to the same machine your firewall could be causing a problem depending on how it's configured so are there any rules in your firewall to block/allow the quake traffic?

Hey Sylux, I am willing to bet the farm (if I had one) , that you would have infinitely more fun playing quake than fighting the good fight trying to get a quake server running.

The real question would be Why do you insist on running your own server?

If the intention is to host a Quake server for you and your friends to play on, wtf brah, tell those newb friends of yours they need start playing more Quake. Start a Quake Clan amongst yourselves with you being the Leader of the Clan.

I am seriously doubting that you are having as much fun trying to get a server running as you would if you was playing Quake with us old timers

have clan, and i am the leader. they are indeed new and i have taught them the common sense stuff. as for me playing w/ the old schoolers, i haven't seen allot of cax games lately, just ctf and crmod. ill wait until cax picks up again, and then you will see me again!

The only way you're going to see CA pick back up is through actions,and twiddling thumbs trying to get a server up and running for you and your friends will really not offer much in the way of fixing the status quo of 'lack of CA gaming'.

that wasn't my idea. my online quaking and the management of my clan are separate. I think that you think have the wrong idea concerning my intentions. my clan is for quake, and other games. Cax has nothing to do with it. we typically coop more in quake than dm. They like Fvf a lot, so i serve that up!

No one said "US or Them" , if thats how your taking it then you are definitely missing what I was trying to say, even though r00k hit the nail on the head.

NetQuake community survives on what little bit of a community we have left, and all things considered,YOUR APART OF THIS COMMUNITY.The sad thing is, when this community knows that helping you fix your server is going to = Less players on the Public servers,its hard to even want to help you fix things.

Reversal of the role time : Are you so stingy with your friends that you can't play at RAGE.QUAKEONE.COM:26003 , RQuake Coop? Do we smell? Do we have cudies? Is there not enough Bun_stats ???

From what I gather, you would rather play with just your friends and would rather keep your friends all to yourself. Think about this as a member of the same community, and try to see things from our perspective.

for the record, they never play any of the online servers. never have, probably never will of their own accord. unlike us, there enthusiasm for quake is not great. they think its fun, but not a game you play year after year. they feel more comfortable on a private rather than public server. i understand that the netquake scene needs more players, but when my clan mates go their separate ways they wont play quake, but i will. however, i guess that it wouldn't hurt to get them on a public server a little bit.

im sorry if i snubbed anybody or hurt anybody's feelings. im not trying to be selfish with my clan mates. on the other hand, if they don't want to go on a pub server, i wont make them. i ain't no dictator.

I call bullshit. I am a eye-witness , do you recall me showing up and saying WOAH you got like fn 5-6 people + you, ALL FROM THE SAME IP ADDRESS?.

I sure as shit do broseph... and they was RIPPING IT UP at the Atlanta,GA server CAx.QUAKEITUP.COM, but... to each his own. The fact that none of them actually spoke etc makes me wonder if you didn't just drop a shit ton of bots onto the server.

it might just be 1 friend and his little brother. Meaning they share 1 computer.

He might want to set up a server for them to get used to playing be for they go online. I dont understand this; ive seen many people say "im not good enough to play online", as if their egos in real life are on the line, what-ever that means....

play and people will teach u the game, share the experience, tada! more gameplay!
