  • First multiplayer tryout

Well I'm not a fan of melee mode but I said to myself what the hell...

I installed nQuake, got on the first server I saw, noticed the very convinient Winamp control in nQuake, and well joined the game.

In first tenth of a second, I got blown.

Then I respawed, and after two tenths of a second, somebody put me to check again.

    Then again. And again.

Then I got a chance to make a move, forward step.

I strafed like nuts, in a game no Fiend would stand a chance, jumped, shot, player stayed alive, and then he aimed me, one shot, blam, me dead.

And again. I got the rocket launcher, I'm shootin it up, hittin them, nothin happens. They hit me, once or twice max, I'm gone.

Made 3-4 kills overall and called it quits.

It's was more annoying than fun, but then again, maybe I just need to find real server.

I noticed they change map after every match...I would like to experience the infamous DM3 and 6...

Well, so much for my multiplayer efforts, will give it some more tries later...

Let people know youre new to multiplayer in Quake, if theyre decent people, they will let up on you (not just nailing you everytime they see you without you having a chance to engage, or attacking you fresh from a respawn).

I was lucky to encounter a kind player the first time I played online.

nQuake is a Quakeworld install. Quakeworld does not play like regular Quake (NetQuake), just so you know.

You do not get much of a chance to see projectiles due to prediction and bunny hopping is very important to jack your speed up and things most players in this community would call cheats are the standard in Quakeworld.

If you want to play an authentic multiplayer game of Quake, you could try GCHQ (gchq.quake1.net) with Qrack or DarkPlaces.

ezQuake is an amazing engine, but it's still Quakeworld. And if you saw a screenshot of what the other player's screens looked like you'd be very sad.

The original Quake is not played too much in Europe so your choice of servers in Europe is very limited.

I love the Quakeworld community to death, I just can't stand Quakeworld itself

They dump all their time and energy into the engine (ezQuake) -- but the engine was never the problem.

Quakeworld's physics and netcode stinkors. They should fix it (Quake 3's code is open source like like Quake 1).

They should also take all the f***ing cheats and eliminate them. They show all these pretty shots -- but that is not Quakeworld and it is devastating what the players actually play with once you discover it and all the cheats are built into the engines!

But they can't do either of these because their community could never agree on any of that stuff (WAYYY too many different parties -- they could never reach an agreement).

Ironically, I think single player in ezQuake is pretty awesome (the Enforcer lasers --- OMG those are awesome!).

                another pointless argument.

what cheats? fullbrightskins? then you have no idea how to play qw.

if you want to do the "insulting" game: QW = pure awesomeness, sporty, fast and tactical, NQ = slow, wacky, laggy stupid. not to mention the incredible great server mods in qw, not gay runes or childish admins here. hooray.

its too easy to bunnyhop in quake world. you don't even have to have skill to bunnyhop in QW. and QW isnt that tactical if you can hop around the level so easily. In NQ you actually have to have control over your movement to bunnyhop correctly. in conclusion, QW feels like quake 3 and it sucks.

the physics are also all screwed up. When I get hit by a rocket, it takes a second or so to register it, so my screen ends up jerking to the location where i would end up. This is very disiorienting. The players don't move as smoothly either and overall, QW doesn't seem very stable. The aim is a little weird at first , but once you get used to it its normal.

If you do switch from QW back to NQ, you will think its incredibly sluggish. I was playing Frogbots with Trinca's qwprogs.dat for a while, and I switched back to NQ playing Frikbots. 0 ping on NQ did feel much more sluggish than 0 ping on QW.

I liked EZquake a lot though. I liked how it shows when you killed/were killed someone, and how many kills by a certain weapon. You can also set it up to show killing sprees and thats pretty fun.
