Cant coop

first, sorry for my english.
The point is that im trying to play cooperative with a friend, and we dont know how to do it.

The first time, we used the "basic" glquake multiplayer menu. I created a server, but when he introduced my IP, the game just said "no response".

Then, we downloaded quakeworld and joined a server, "qw.dybbuk.de:27500".
We both connected successfully, but then the only thing we could do is stay there, looking at the purple sky, waiting the game to start.

Now i have just downloaded Proquake 3.5...

how can we play coop online? thanks

These are co-op servers, once you connect press "2" to join the game

fvf.servequake.com:26003 ---- No clue where this one is
qrf.servequake.com:26003 ---- Located somewhere in Europe

honestly you can use whatever you want for a quakeclient.

i personally use qrack, because i play capture the flag with r00k, who is the qrack engine creator and if you ever have a question about his client he is never "too busy" working on other things.

The newest Qrack release is found at: http://quakeone.com/qrack/dist/qrack2011_3347.zip

However if you like pretty graphics and have a good machine/graphics card, you can use darkplaces. Beware theres many more options you can play with and if you dont know what your doing you can be in a world of trouble.

Proquakes fine too, its more true to original quake, just updated a bit.

You dont use quakeworld, unless your connecting to a quakeworld server. The servers I listed are all regular netquake co-op servers in different locations.

Also you may want to visit here and download the maps needed for co-op quake.

Okay, now the problem is that my laptop's keyboard doesn't have the "2" key...

feels bad man

i just need to know whats the command name added to the "2" key, so i can change it using the console command "bind ctrl x"..

yeah the #2 key by default is bound to impulse 2.

What server your connecting to, what client (*.exe) are you using currently. also try literally just typing impulse 2 (then hit enter) in the console. You get the console by pressting the tilda key (~) On a standard US Keyboard its next to the "F1" key.

Yeah, im using quakeworld (qwcl.exe) i know how to use de console, and i tried typing impulse 2 (enter) but nothing happened.

yeah, for everything i said...you cannot use a quakeworld client. Im sorry I cannot help you with quake world....im anti quakeworld. If you go back a few posts i made mention of a few clients you can use, netquake only though however.

why are you anti quakeworld? is a bad mod?
my computer cant run darkplaces, that's a shame..

another question: coop mode is exactly like single player mode, but online? that's what im looking for.

I personally just dont like quakeworld. If you cant run darkplaces try proquake or qrack. Yes co-op is sort of like single player mode but with multiplayer. However the server I play co-op on uses new maps that are more challenging then the single player maps originally released. Thats why in my last post I provided you with a link to download those maps.

I downloaded the map pack
now i can play coop using the Proquake mod, version: 3.5 . I connect to qrf.servequake.com:26003. Then, i appear in a place where i can choose the map.

two questions:
-Is there a way to choose the original maps, monsters and original weapons? i mean... this mod is crazy, knights can teleport and monsters are immortals..

-i downloaded a newer version (ProQuake 4: The official continuation of ProQuake) but when i join the same server, instead of appearing at the "select-map" map, i appear in a DM one.. why?
