  • Noob-ish server help

Alright, my friend is having trouble joining me.
I have cable internet and forwarded ports so it can't be that right?

First when we tried playing with each other in vanilla quake, he got the error message
"connection accepted" or something contradictory like that.

We then tried putting up a dedicated server, I could join it but he couldn't.

Then we tried the latest build of ProQuake, it fixed the "connection accepted" problem but now
he gets "no response" instead. Any ideas?

set your ip as a dmz zone on your router for all connects to be allowed.

Pretty sure it already is, I usually host both listed and dedicated servers on other games.
But thanks for the advice, I'll check it out.

Back in the day, I used to have to type "status" or "ping" after 'Connection Accepted' to get it to work. I think it has to do with old NAT problems, which should be fixed in any current quake client. On the homepage of this site, on the bottom right, is 'Download A Client' so try a new one.

Gonna try status/ping on vanilla quake.

Nah, didn't work. Damn! Would really get the ProQuake server working though.
How comes he gets "no response" but I don't?

                You mean for the server?
                wqpro451 -noipx -dedicated 16 +coop 1
And the same for vanilla quake, but with "winded" instead of wqpro451 obviously.

Try adding the ip from the server to the commandline :

                  wqpro451 -ip xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx -noipx -dedicated 16 +coop 1

                    Thanks, will try! But...
Just figured out that he can't join any other servers either.
So it is most probably that which needs solving right now.

The server works for me just fine ping 70-85.

Tell your friend to try starting hes quake with the -ip in commandline.

                          glpro.exe -ip xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx

Must be something in hes router settings then.
Maybe set hes pc in dmz mode to test.(router).
