U have to go to the router page of your router.
This address is different on some routers.

Try this in browser 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.2.1
If none of this work tell me the brand and type of the router.
If there is a password asked try first by leaving it blank.
Other default passwords are "admin" for login and "admin" for password.
U will find DMZ normaly in the firewall settings.

The DMZ (Demilitarized Zone) option lets you set a single computer on your network outside of the router. If you have a computer that cannot run Internet applications successfully from behind the router, then you can place the computer into the DMZ for unrestricted Internet access.

Note: Putting a computer in the DMZ may expose that computer to a variety of security risks. Use of this option is only recommended as a last resort.

But before u all do this tell me what client your friend is using for quake.

For vanilla Quake, the latest version.
For ProQuake, also the latest version.

He went into the router page using his web browser but there were no firewall nor dmz settings.

I meant that he actually was able to get into the router page, there were a lot of settings but no firewall settings.
Do you still need to know the brand and type?

No not really just wanted to check it out myself.
If there is a PORT FORWARDING option in the router settings u can use that too.
Fxp to open some ports for the glpro client.

No port forwarding option either, what kind of shit router does he use?
He made an exception for 26000 on his computer's firewall though, but it didn't solve anything.

With NQ, you've got to forward ALL your UDP ports. 26000 is just the first part of the beginning of the handshake process.

NQ uses a big block of ports for communication.

You get "connection accepted" because a bit of the handshake goes through and the server never receives the rest of the client handshake so the handshake process goes no further.

                        Hi Baker,

It's good to see you back.
Are there are any plans to introduce options within Proquake to limit the number of ports needed? Judging by the number of times we've seen this kind of question posed, it might make quake a little more accessible from a server admin point of view. I'm wondering if -port xxxxx and -dedicated yy in the command line couldn't be used as basis (in the future) to calculate the exact ports required?

e.g -port 26000 -dedicated 10 = ports 26000-26010 required, or something along those lines?

                        Just an idea

                        Kind regards

I don't see how that would really help a newbie. They still would have to do all kinds of things they aren't accustomed to doing (command lines, screwing with the router, etc.) And then deal with other issues like potentially Windows Firewall or how wireless network can be crappy. There isn't a magic bullet for any of this.

I didn't actually suggest that there was, it was just intended as a suggestion to limit and simplify the amount of ports required. But no matter, move along people
