I just tried this, I consistently get runtime error 13, type mismatch, then when I click "OK" kernel32 falls over and need to hard reset. Win98SE. It looks like it would be a really useful launcher.

        Windows 98 isn't supported.

I could make it work in Windows 98 and had contemplated it, but ended up deciding against because ...

        1) QuakeOne.com's operating system statistics shows only about 2% of visitors use Windows 98 or Windows ME.

        2) Windows 98 tends to be run on older hardware that have slower processors and it would get into support/performance issues on some of these machines.

        3) With Windows 98, a more sophisticated installation would be required to include some libraries for some of the graphics rendering that the ProQuake Launcher uses.

Pretty much you need to have Windows 2000 or higher.

I am sympathetic to those that have older machines but if I had kept within the scope of Windows 98 compatibility for so few users, it would have taken a lot longer to finish it.

But I'll keep this in mind for the future. Who knows ...

/But that reminds me, I'll note the baseline requirements and include that information on the information pages/readme.txt files next time I update it.

Quakeone.com - Being exactly one-half good and one-half evil has advantages. When a portal opens to the antimatter universe, my opposite is just me with a goatee.

So while you guys all have to fight your anti-matter counterparts, me and my evil twin will be drinking a beer laughing at you guys ...

          Ah, well that explains that!

Just to be perverse, if I were to independently seek out the .dlls required to try and make it work, what are they? Are they also NT style only?

I could look into it, but that sounds a lot easier than it actually is :d :d (And I don't remember at the moment)

I might check into it tomorrow, I would rather it run on Windows 98 but I'd have to investigate the difficulties.

Stagea, I installed the ProQuake Launcher 1.1 on my Windows 98 machine and it runs.

I made a (dumb) mistake in version 1.1 that caused the problem you encountered. I resolved the issue and updated the install; if you re-download it will (probably) work on your Windows 98 machine.

I say probably because #3 above still applies with Windows 98, but since it does work on my Windows 98 machine, it seems pretty reasonable that it should be able to run on yours (but it still might require some DLLs).
