I'd like to do it. But the code for Windows is complex and very operating system specific and I didn't write it and don't have the experience level and probably not the skill level either to do for OSX.

DarkPlaces to my knowledge has a platform independent method using cl_togglecapture 1 or something like that.

I'll look into the DarkPlaces capture for the time being. Thanks alot for the pointer.

Some other features I'd like to see in ProQuake.

      * Record automaticly numbered demos. Kinda like you can do when using -condebug con%d. If that were possible I could have bindings for record and stop with just a keypress and don't have to worry about overwriting an old demo.

      * Automatic map download.

      * I haven't tried dequake yet but my con logs show all kinds of crazy characters. Not sure if I should use dequake or if it's some character encoding problem because I'm using a mac.

      * Ability to change the keymap, I'm having a hard time entering some chars into the console because 1. I'm on a mac and 2. I use a swedish keymap.

Now these are just feature requests I'd like to see. I am grateful that you keep up the mac port up to date.

        Bad Screenshots

I'm taking screenshots to try to promote Slide, but when I look at them in Windows, it's as if the gamma correction isn't there. I'm running gamma .7 and the screenshots looks like gamma 1.

Try starting like this glpro.exe -gamma 0.6
Your sreenshots will be fine then.

            Console width

Is there another way I can change console width? I change console width in advanced options from auto, 50%, 100% or 640, but I'd like to make it to say 85%-90%. Auto is no where close to looking right. 100% looks great but I am too old to read the text with it here. Was thinking 90% would be perfect. Any help Please?

edit: 17" monitor not widescreen and 1280x1024 res
edit: 50% looks like auto which looks like 640 all look same

People have asked about this enough times that I'll think of something for a future version.

I'm extremely anti-complexity so I wanted to make it easy and not add 15 settings to control it and only have settings that were likely to be used.

I'll probably add something like vid_conwidth and vid_conheight when I do the next update or the update after that.

No worries. I don't know how ya do it so it's all complex to me
I read the thread and now feel like a jackass for re-asking.

Does con_notifylines work in Proquake? The number of lines showing up stays at 4 regardless of what number I set for con_notifylines. I must be doing something wrong...

Also, does anyone know if -dinput works with Mac?

                    I'll check on con_notifylines.

dinput = DirectInput = Windows specific feature

                    • ProQuake 3.99

I haven't tested this client yet, just downloaded it today.

I've been using Darkplaces engine with the official QRP pack. And absolutely love the clean 24 bit appearance of most things.

Anyways, tried a couple of servers with Darkplaces and get serious flood of unknown command with a couple of the more popular servers (rune quake schmack.net and crmod server).

So I was told to get/use proquake. I was told it too supports the CD tracks on harddrive trick.

Does ProQuake also take advantage of the 24 bit textures of QRP?

I really don't mind which client I use as long as I get all the features I'm looking for. The eye candy with full AA and AF and the ambient NiN tracks residing on my HD.

If these options are supported, is it documented in the help files so I can get proquake configured properly?

                      • proquake does NOT support 24 bit (external) textures, so if that is a must have, go with qrack 1.90

                        Comment

                        • Yeah, ProQuake is a basic looking 1996 Quake feel engine.

Qrack supports external textures and a trillion fancy things. It's not like DarkPlaces and has an entirely different style.

                          • Fair enough, and thanx for the mega fast replies.

I just started getting back into Quake after a many year hiatus. What I had read just a few days ago is that Darkplaces was the more popular glquake engine and ezquake was the more popular glquakeworld engine. Those were the two I downloaded.

I've gotten sort of accustomed to DarkPlaces but can learn any engine that can do the same three basic things, use track music directly from hard drive, use the external 24 bit textures and supports mods such as prodigy or the official mission packs. Oh and a fourth thing being plays netquake non QW based servers, without issue.

As for Quake World, I really don't know what client provides the best there. I'd still like to keep the 24 bit textures. EZ quake seems to do a decent job with that aspect and does server mod downloading effectively.

Actually I'm surprised there is still this much activity even still. It's sad that ID won't release the content of Quake 1. But alas, there still is a community even after 13 years.

This is what happens when I stumble across quake 1 for the Wii homebrew.

                            • Have you set up a svn/cvs/git repository for this, or it something you just work on yourself? It would be nice to be able to pull the latest sources.

Also, are you looking for other people to help with ProQuake? I'd be interested in helping debug the linux version (I don't know C atm) if you're looking for some help with that.
