@ =peg= FitzQuake is clearly SP oriented, that's why it does not support that "fancy" MP feature you are looking for

I like GL Pro, and i remain, a GL pro user.... I appreciate the diversity of the community as the newer engines get younger more hungry for graphics and prettiness, and stuff into the game... and for you information there have been rebuilds of GL proquake as well that fixed almost all the bugs you announced... but to be honest i don't give a fuck. I like GL proquake.

Hell i'd use winquake if the stupid thing would run properly but it doesn't anymore....

Anyways i got windows for using GL pro and just so u know fritz doesn't load on here either b/c it gives me an IPX protocol error then WINE crashes. For my ubuntu boot.

I think most engines if not all can feel like GL quake, it's just a matter of disabling stuff.

Lazy cats such as i, don't want to disable 200 commands, or even 4, or even read entire manuals on how to disable this and that, and go thru trail an error to get it to look like gl quake.

            Thanks, but no thanks.

I tried to compile Qrack using Quore makefile but get quickly stuck with gcc complaining about the _asm keyword. It seems that gcc does not use the same syntax for inline assembly code. That's not a big deal but it requires some #ifdef in the code.

I understand, I'm a lazy cat too. If you haven't solve your problem, you could give Quore a try, it's just one argument (-legacy) to get it the oldschool way.

I linked you to a native Linux port of Fitzquake, you don't have to use Wine for that...
If you want winquake, then you can use TyrQuake, a straightforward port that looks exactly like the original: Engine - Disenchant.net

lxndr: Oh nice about that -legacy switch. Thanks a lot for that!

I like Tyrquake, this engine get me back to the Quake world. I didn't want fanzy stuff at the time, and Tyrquake built smoothly. Arff, can't resist, I'll download it, and fitzquake SDL port as well :-)

If your too damn lazy to adjust settings of other engines that get you in the GLPro "feel and look" ballpark then thats just sad,and maybe you should stick to using Window's.

I'm actually of the opinion that anything that deviates from the standard intended look of software Quake should be disabled by default, with an option to enable. GLQuake is not the intended look - it was a hack put together over a weekend and then refined over time - while remaining low on the list of all conceivable priorities - as an experiment in porting the Quake engine to OpenGL. Hence the fact that the code for it is quite gross and has sprouted all manner of interesting tentacles.

GLquake and software quake. There's little difference between the two, and I guess most quakers will not notice them.

Well have a look at this scene in software Quake and tell me if you think most people will spot the difference or not.

Another test. Load e4m2, and don't jump down into the main room. Just run about a little in the start area. Look at what the sky does.
