I started DP without the .cfg's - no music.

@ NightFright: Are the titles of the tracks "track0x.ogg" or "track00x.ogg"?

Edit: Here's my pk3 with the tracks. Perhabs somebody could try it...
    Code:

Mine are named like track02.ogg, but it should also work with track002.ogg, if I am not mistaken.

          BoylerBoi,

          I didnt forget you
To continue our journey in finding the root cause for your issue:

I bet, if you copy your complete Quake folder to a USB-stick and paste it
onto your friends Windows computer, everything will be fine.

You use a different OS, so this might be the root cause.

Please do this test and paste it to your wifes, or childrens or dads computer.
          and we will see....

          Regards,
          Seven

This is my 1st post on this forum. On my XP Pro machine, Darkplaces always creates a config file and reads it from: My Documents\My Games\darkplaces\id1, or in the case of mission pack 1: My Documents\My Games\darkplaces\hipnotic etc. In otherwords, each mod creates its own subfolder based on its subfolder in the Quake root folder. In Vista and 7 it may be under Users/MyUserName\Etc. I don't use either enough to remember. Darkplaces never uses the config file in the QUAKE\ID1 folder. Is this normal?

              Hello martyfender,

              what is your question ?
I cannot see any problems yet other than you named your Quake directory "DarkPlaces",
              which is a little unusual.

              Seven

PS: OK, now you edited your post:
Yes, it is unusual. Which exact path is your "Quake" folder in ?

Thanks for your reply Seven. My Quake is in: D:\Games\QUAKE. When I run Darkpaces it automatically generates a folder named "darkplaces" and subfolders in:C:\Documents and Settings\Marty.MARTY-2AD2FCD55\My Documents\My Games\ . the subfolders are id1, hipnotic, rogue etc. Config files, at default settings, are created in each of these subfolders when the various games are run. any modifications to configs are only read by Darkplaces here and not the config in: D:\Games\QUAKE\ID1. I was just pointing this out. However is this normal darkplaces behavior? Editing the config in: D:\Games\QUAKE\ID1, affects other sourceports, but not darkplaces. Thanks
PS, all of my Darkplace saves are also created in these subfolders.
Should I not edit my posts in favor of a new reply? I'm not new to reading forums,
but new to posting in a forum.
                Thanks

                  I would suggest the following:
1.) Use this build. Extract it, so that Darkplaces.exe is in you D:\Games\QUAKE folder. Overwriting everything.
                  2.) Delete all config.cfgs, autoexec.cfgs in your D:\Games\QUAKE\ID1 folder.
3.) Start Darkplaces and type in your console: dir
All of your D:\Games\QUAKE\ID1 content should be displayed.
4.) Type in your console: path
The search path will be displayed. This MUST be your D:\Games\QUAKE\ID1 folder !
You will notice it, when your pak files are shown.

Be also sure, that you dont use any .pk3 files ! They may contain other config.cfgs or autoexecs.
Also check your .pak files, if they contain config.cfgs. This must NOT be.
                  Originally pak0.pak only contains "default.cfg".

Hope this brings a little light in the darkness...

                  Kind Regards,
                  Seven

                      Sure, there are Win/Linux/Mac ports.

I like Quake by itself, no engines.

Quake without an engine? How exactly does that work? Even winquake.exe is a Quake engine.
