hey all, i got some question regarding something i noticed and i wanna know if it mightve just been the builds i used or such.
normally i use the latest stable darkplaces win64 build from 28-06-'11 which doesnt support offsetmapping and with that build i get average 50-70 fps and from time to time a drop just above 20fps like 23 when theres water cuz i got Seven's pretty water, but my fps always stays above 20 at all times while i got all eye-candy i could find from here including rtlights and models and textures and such and sevens mod compilation and i got all the eyecandy from darkplaces turned on like RT lighting, HDR and bloom and such
but when after reading the build i use doesnt support offsetmapping, i tried another DP build. and i love how the offsetmapping looks, didnt know it would look so amazing compared to without offsetmapping.
but with that build my fps is waay lower then with the other build, 15-30 instead rather then 50-70 like i get with the other build which doesnt support offsetmapping :/
ive also tried using a few other builds from 2010 too to see if the problem mightve been build-specific but all of them seem to give the same low fps compared to the build i normally use :/
i got a fast comp: core i7 960 3GHz, 12GB ram and a gtx460 1GB
so its not like as if i dont have a fast enough comp or such
so my question would be if there are other builds which do support offsetmapping and everything else without having a huge framerate drop?
or does offsetmapping just cause such a huge increase in resources needed
that it causes that huge drop in framerate?
