low fps with offsetmapping?

    Hello splitterface,

    oh no...
    Dont tell me you are using Rygels ultra pack.
    Because that is exactly why you receive the error message with the "base dir".

    The first thing you should do is to replace it with all the single files you showed in your screen.
    But be aware, that most of them interfere with each other.
    Saying, that you will have duplicated files, and DP will use the last ones in alphabetical order.
    Dont understand me wrong:
    I am a big fan of Rygel. He is a very nice guy and I stayed in close contact with him back in those glory days. His pack was OUTSTANDING.
    But that was 2007 and today we are in 2012 (or was it 2011 ?).
    Things have changed and almost ALL things changed to an improved way.
    But if you want to stick with it, you can alternatively extract the content from the 2.7GB pack directly into your id1 folder and the error is gone.


    The fact that there are sooo many replacement packs for DarkPlaces and everybody has a different opinion makes it of course very difficult to set DP up.
    Mindf!3ldzX regularly whines about it

    But it is also fun to experiment and find your personal best choice.


    Things that you are still missing in your screenshot.
    - QRP_map_textures_v.1.00.pk3 (MOST important !)
    - QRP_normalmap_textures_add-on_v.1.00.pk3 (MOST important !)
    - HUD + menu replacement sets (AndehX contains only faces)
    - Nahuel�s custom HUD layouts if you want
    - Weapon models+textures for ID1 (Rygels pack contains buggy ones)
    - shader animated exploding barrels
    - animated health b_boxes (OoPpEe�s pack or my pack)
    - enhanced gibs (from osjclatchford or others)
    - high poly backpack model+texture
    - improved dog skin (because you said that you dont like the Reforged one)
    - s_bubble.spr and s_light.spr (High Res versions by Moon[Drunk])
    - weather .ent files for id1 maps (rain, snow fog)
    - improved sound files (mixture of mindgrid and other resources)
    - improved / ripped soundtrack (different versions available)
    - Did I miss something ?

        Seven;

        when someone has problems with someone else's engine, and I mean this fundamentally, it is usually better to speak to the author of the program than to a bunch of other users.

          ah, i had no clue the pack was from 2007, it didnt say that. btw its still 2011, wont be 2012 for a few months

          yeah its ugly, which is why i am replaced the one from reforged with the dog skin by fraggers

          went to look around for all of them and found nearly all of the stuff you listed. only didnt find were:
          the weapons for ID1 (maybe i overlooked them in search results?)
          the enhanced gibs
          s_bubble.spr and s_light.spr (High Res versions by Moon[Drunk])
          weather .ent files for id1 maps (rain, snow fog)

          could you give me links to the ones im still missing?

            Here are some answers:
            - high poly backpack (inside qwre pack)
            - Animated health pack that nicely fits the animated ammo pack.
            - weapons for ID1 (follow this link and then on and on)
            Oh yes, Rygels g_weapons are buggy. They dont spin and they have buggy offset textures.
            At least a corrected "spinning" .pk3 pack version can be found in inkub0�s thread here (he calls it "weapon on ground")
            There are many many different weapon sets out there splitterface, just follow the sublinks of above link.
            - My ALL-TIME favorite weapon (in case you took the other pack)
            - improved dog
            - High Res gib textures (by osjclatchford for original id1 gib models)
            - some custom gibs
            - there are much more custom gibs out there (Ruohis made some as well. You can mix them.)
            Take a lok at this movie (to see some in action)
            - High Res s_bubble.spr and s_light.spr (go quickly and grab tem !)
            - weather .ent files (you didnt saw this thread before ??)
            The weather effects are one of the best in my opinion.
            How could one live without it ?

            Now please sit back, take your time and follow above links.
            After that start your puzzle.
            Pick the contents you want and replace Rygels pack piece by piece.
            You will see it is fun.

              just tried the QRP + normal maps though. and when i saw them in-game i went like this:
              they look waay more amazing then the ones from the rygel pack


              about the weather files... yeah i came across that post but thought it was only a thread to help people to learn how to make the effects cuz off the huge post which all the explaining and such
              didnt see you added the links with the .ent files at the bottom of the post. sometimes i can be so blind
              ima try them later to see which i like most for each map


              the bubbles and light-orb look great too, and so does the backpack from qwre
              way better then the old backpack which was just a lame re-texture rather then a re-model


              im also loving your fully transparent hud, it looks awesome
              and i also found versions of your hud for both MPs

              the weapons from rygel didnt rotate?
              oh yeah, just looked at them again and see it now. i never noticed they didnt rotate
              but then again, i never played quake1 in its original state
              so i had no clue they were originally supposed to be spinning


              found plagues weapon-pack through your links which looks real cool too
              and its nice they look more like the original then the ones in the rygel pack, and some of them look lot more detailed


              only the links to the dog and the link from the ribcage & spine gibs dont work anymore, get 'file not found'
              if you have them yourself, could you maybe re-upload them for me?

              now my quake looks even more amazing then before. didnt think that was possible untill now

                btw random fun-fact:
                i just checked the size of my darkplaces folder, and it went from 3GB to 1,5GB compared to when i had rygels pack, while it looks ten times better now
