In the past, I personally never had any luck in finding settings that give smooth performance in DM with DarkPlaces.
After getting some assistance tonight primarily from LordHavoc, who was nice enough to spend some time helping me with this, I managed to get a VERY solid and high performance config setup.
I did a lot of testing with it and it performed at least as well as any other client, maybe better. It was incredibly smooth, even a smoother feel than GL Pro.
I'm going to do more tests and it give it a try on the servers (I already gave it a light test and it was great) to see if any of the settings I used can be tweaked and test it on a couple of different computers.
After I do these and double check everything (and strip out settings that don't apply), I'll post it here. (I also want to consider segregating it to a -dpdm folder because these settings are not likely the ones someone would use in single player). It will probably be Monday at the earliest because I want to make sure I do it correctly.
But it was very cool using DarkPlaces to battle some bots in testing and have the DarkPlaces atmosphere and still manage to slaughter the bots. I had 15 bots in actions firing rockets all over the place and I never felt any drop in framerate so I expect it to perform great on servers as well.
