Thanks everyone for replying to what, obviously, was me spitting my dummy, especially the good humour and informative way you all did. I was most definitely having a bad day; not just Quake related.
I've some perspective now, and I'm back on it, taking on board all the good advice.
I've even cleaned the grass off my keyboard.
