I'm not trying to step on your toes but lets review the facts.

1.People have already said "who's that guy" meaning the trust people have in you won't get you far.

2.You bring up an interesting, yet flawed scenario on letting the community pay for the server.Setting up a server takes thinking, and picking who will admin the server is a touchy process, I've seen good people turn into assholes & power mongers once they get it in their head "I'm helping pay for this server, I should have a say in how shit goes even though nobody else sees my view"

3.Theres easier ways to deal with this situation.

4.You asked for donations. I understand you want to help the community by opening up another server, but what happens if the server gets set up and there are barely any resources("donators") to pay for this server? Just because Dreadful opened up a server and allowed other people to help pay doesn't make it the right decision, though Dreadful is the H.M.F.I.C in my eyes since he is the one who officially launched the server and took the plunge and Speaknow is a great server if you can look past all the bullshit and over admining.

Really, I'd recommend giving admin to Rampage and Omicron and see what happens. If it were a mistake, you could always change your mind. By giving admin to players who are unhappy with the status quo, it gives them a stake in the success of an alternative.

I put in the order for a server based in St. Louis. Maybe we should try giving admin to rampage and omicron since they think they can do it right. Lets give them the chance.

If anyone does care to donate, realize that you are donating to help keep the server alive, This doesnt make the server yours but you still have your say, as well as everyone else.

As for receiving > $75. We can keep track in a thread. Let the people state that they donated and and how much and I can confirm it.

I know I won't donate, I already pay for 2 other servers and HDz runs the third, which I don't pay for. When I donate I don't expect to have a say in what the organization I donate to does exactly with the money I chose to give them. How is this different?

I get the feeling Phenom is rejecting the idea out of fear and/or jealousy. Im not saying Im a good admin, and Im not sure that Omi or Ramp would make good admins. But its worth a try. Maybe if given admin they wont get power hungry because they know what its like to be a victim of that.

Thats funny, I have nothing to be jealous of or fear, Dreadful you offered me the chance to be a paying admin of Speaknow when it was only yourself as admin, I decided not to and opened up a completely separate server

This guy asked my opinion and I'm sticking to what I believe. I don't see a server running off of people's donations lasting very long. Its a 10+ year old game, not a "Help Katrina victims" campaign.

There is a faster/simpler solution however. Which would be to just bite down and pay for a server outright and place it anywhere you want within your server hosts's reach, whichever server host you choose to go with.

If theres only one server thats gets playtime which is Speaknow, what makes you think those people are going to want to pitch in and pay for something that already exists? I seriously don't think the player base of Clan Arena is large enough to support an act like this, especially when the majority already just settle for whats the best at the current moment.

I predict MDerteau's server idea turning into another Rage or Speaknow.

So you are basically doing what Dreadful is doing? Opening a server and allowing a couple other people to help pay? thats not a donation, thats a partnership

You really don't know shit about me, or my philosophies in life. Petty? Recognize that me and tal represent the subgroup of skilled players in this community. I don't consider that petty, some of us speak for people who seem to have no voice in the direction of all of these servers that are supposedly set up "for us by us."

For example, the pldown issue. I don't know how many times skilled players can complain about that shit and get nothing out of dread's admins. I would tend to agree with what baker / r00k / phenom have said, its time for an alternative for the people who have been underrepresented in this online community. Those of us who prefer less spam, fun games, free of the bullshit of overmoderation where no one has to worry about pissing off an admin, etc.

I propose the following:
-4th team always disabled unless otherwise required
-Mark / Disc0 ruining games with their antics WILL warrant admin action
-Exploring the alternatives of other ca worthy maps

I'm sure other ideas are possible. If any of you are serious about this, like phenom or maybe that new guy proposing to start a server, feel free to let me know. I'm sure tal is down as well. I really don't play that often but I know either of us can run a server better than y5 who gets off on powertripping rather than listening to any of the players.

Im not sure what its running on, I cut a deal with one of the guys on a server hosting site. Im guessing Ill just be managing it via FTP. I do need a copy of the CAx mod though, will I be able to change the MOTD myself? And will it be the newest release?

R00k can hook you up with the mod, if you want the MOTD I'm sure R00k could also set that up.. and it should be the latest stable build

but basically, get ahold of R00k, hes around here somewhere.
