Look at it this way... like a an Almond Roka... it looks like a cat turd, but it certainly don't taste like one.

I have a dedicated Quess server up and running for those who want to get a game going sometime. It is hosted on the same computer my NewDM server is. Be sure to download the mod first!

        The address is:

        newdm.servegame.org:26001

Weird stuff happens when more than two people connect. I suppose the mod hasn't been designed for observers/spectators.

So the max player limit is two.

Too bad the mod isn't open source, otherwise I'd try and edit it to make observers and spectators able to connect...

Is there any contact info for the author? We should email 'em and ask for help on upgrading his/her MOD.

hehe the mod was made in 1997 so I doubt these e-mail addresses are valid anymore... but... here is whats in the readme.

Dear Quake coders from Days of Ole,

We humbly request your Quess source code so that we may feast again on such fond, and loving memories. Your work has sparked the attention of a starving and struggling community...who seek refuge in a game of Quess... In this day and age of hi-tech'ary, we remain yours, stuck in 1997.

And the Lord did grin, and the people did feast upon the lambs and sloths and carp and anchovies and orangutans and breakfast cereals...

                In this we ask... Amen.

You guys will never find the source code. Trust me. I'm the one who prompted Quake Terminus to even put up Quess. I searched for a long time to find all the versions of it in the name of preservation, including source code. In the process, I contacted all the developers I could get in contact with. Nobody has the source anymore.

I did email the folks.... and got a couple bounces... I think one made it somewhere... but no reply yet.

The email that didn't bounce was probably to Sumaleth. He can hardly even remember the project anymore. I don't think he even plays any games at all anymore. He no longer had the Quess binaries, let alone the source code.

Moving this out of news since the server doesn't seem to be up any longer.
Quakeone.com - Being exactly one-half good and one-half evil has advantages. When a portal opens to the antimatter universe, my opposite is just me with a goatee.

So while you guys all have to fight your anti-matter counterparts, me and my evil twin will be drinking a beer laughing at you guys ...
