Kinda makes me think about poisonous battery fumes that are highly explosive. I wonder if it would be a good idea to code the battery boxes to ignite if fired upon? Could add some strategy to shot placement in fire-fights and create a strategic hazard in DM and would definitely be characteristic of the model with those vapors coming off. Either way, I think it looks pretty slick.
Thank you for your feedback.
Yes, it was an idea. Just an idea, which needs not much development time to do.
I wanted to ask if it could be interesting.
My intention was something like gdiddy was saying.
But of course not all things in Quake make sense, right ?
Sometimes it is simply because of fun...
The quantity of particles can be edited with a single value in the user-friendly effectinfo.txt
Raising the sparks or smoke for example to make it better seen is not an issue.
I have to make it semi-independent to the SMC though (due to some requirements...)
Will post the matching effectinfo.txt as soon as the updated SMC is out. I wrote about it in other threads.
One last thing:
A user wrote a comment in youtube. I am sorry, I can not reply in youtube because I dont have a google+ account (this seems to be necessary to post there... weird: They allow me to upload clips, but dont allow me to post comments).
He wrote that an effect like this would be ideal for the lava-ammo-boxes in mission pack 2: DoE.
That is a fantastic idea.
I will see what I can do.
Sometimes good ideas come after bad ideas (like in this case) lol
@ Dutch
Shootable ammo boxes is done in the mod kleshik for example.
It is a good idea for some cases (but not that much for vanilla Quake), but for mods with their own maps or multiplayer (to harm others) of course
Thank you again.
PS: I re-upload a lot of the gifs in opening post of this thread. They get lost from time to time
That was me on youtube.
Unfortunately the comment system is screwed ever since they shoehorned google+ into it. You have to use a "modern" browser like google chrome (their words not mine) for the comment system to halfway work right.
yes it might make more sense for the lava-nails from ROGUE
for them it would actually make sense cuz the nails are red-hot
and we all know that if items reach extremely high temperatures there tends to rise some steam from them
so that might be a good idea, to try how it'll look on rogues lava-nails pickups!
perhaps make some steam rise from the two rectangular holes at the top?
For those who are interested, here is the particle effect extension for the "cell ammo big", as shown in the video clip here.
You need the "small mod compilation" V4.71 for it to work.
Once the SMC mission pack V4.71 versions are done, I will also try to add a similar effect to the "lava ammo" boxes as suggested by DeadTenor.
It might be hard to see in the clip ...
Look at the red wire and slits on the top
Looks interesting for sure. I wonder if the adding of a subtle spark/buzz/Geiger counter type of sound might compliment the effect. Or perhaps a slight coloured light source emitting from inside and through the "grate" on the top of the ammo box? If used in conjunction with the steam/smoke it could create an interesting effect.
In any event, please keep up the good work Seven
Kind regards
Monty

Hello Monty,
Your suggestions looks really good !
It adds a lot to the atmosphere. Even the normals on the floor and surrounding models react accodingly...
The small extensions on the cell block (like wires) partially glow, too.
I asked golden_boy to reopen it due to imgbox.de (the place where I uploaded ALL my screenshots and in this case: Gifs) is no longer free. So they deleted all of them. That means I will have to re-upload them in all threads and all posts...
The fact that especially this project and its opening page lives from previews and gifs to make it visable, I asked golden_boy to temporary unlock it, so that I can edit the post. It can be locked again right after it. It was not my intention to bring it back to the 1st page of the subforum "finished works". I didnt know "unlocking" a thread was not possible without adding a post. This was not meant to be conceited.
I am sorry for confusion and feel a little bad about it now.
