      nice but a little too close to the soldier skin for me, I always thought the player would have a less corupted/rotton look to him... just my two pennith...

      still like it though, its great stuff...

                If you have a fast computer, you can also try r_glsl_offsetmapping_reliefmapping "1" in combination with the above commands.

                • aren't grunts basically zombie soldiers that died and turned against you? so wouldn't it make sense that the player is similar to a grunt, except not a zombie. i might have that wrong. but i like the skin ! agreed with smoketetsu though.

                    arent you the one that gave us amazing DP movieclips ?

                    I am suprised you didnt know about the parallax mapping thing,
                    because it is a DarkPlaces ONLY feature.
                    So from today on, all your videos will have this enhancements enabled, right ?

                    Please read this post as well to understand it better.

                    You need normal textures for the effect to become visible (that should be mentioned at least).
                    Link to such normals can be found in the above linked post.
                    But as I saw from your existing movie clips, you use Rygels pack for your Quake.
                    That pack contain normal textures already (some are bugged though. Especially the item/weapon ones !)

                    Now go and slam some nice new clips with all the bells and whistles enabled at us turtle.

                      Actually they're not: in the Quake universe it seems the story is that the grunts are actually human soldiers who (most likely captured by the enemy) had some fancy brain surgery done to them- resulting in the brains getting scrambled and some probes implanted in their pleasure-centers to stimulate them into being mindless killing machines.

                      That and the fact that in the Quake universe, the undead don't die

                      It seems id finds a way to substantiate the 'mindless turncoat human' enemy:
                      DOOM- demon-possessed sorta-zombies
                      QUAKE- mind-altered people
                      QUAKE 2- mind/body-altered people
                      RAGE- berserk mutants and crazy bandits

                        Cool man, I'm ready to make some nice movie clips, but I want to make sure I have the best setup. I have the QRP normals & Rygel. Some coop maps are not enhanced by the QRP pak3's, while the rygel pack does enhance them. So i flip back & forth in order to have visuals on various maps.

                        Can i combine the rygel & QRP? I guess I could with a pack explorer.

                        Seven thanks for the effectsinfo.txt. Wish you could make the green dust from a flag carrier in CTF more pronounced. I really like the flame burning on the wall from the deathknight, and the green slime remaining from the scrag darts.

                        Coop has the scrags shooting homing purple balls. They need more glow/effect on them.

                        Thanks for the help getting POM & relief working. PM me some advice and a good config file to use. I'd like all maximum settings. But it would be nice to be made aware of what particular cvars drastically impact performs so I will knwo which to disable first.

                        • I don't know the story behind the soldiers in Quake, but the skin is almost identical, so I used it as a base to make the player's skin. It has several changes, not all visible from the pics but I'm not going to make it completely different, except for the face, that I acknowledge being not so good.
                          (osjclatchford: it's a compliment, isn't it? )

                          @turtlevan: if you make good videos with our skins, let me know 'cause I'd like to upload them on our channel/website. Tell me if you're interested

                          Finally, I've decided to start a faithful version of the shambler, with fur!!
