@mindz - I didn't read it that way. Probably somewhere in this thread a 1 year goal was set and never reached, and that was long ago.
I'mma go on a really skinny, long limb for the next part. The Earth rune is to symbolize that the goal was against natural law and that is why it was never reached.
As the corpse of the monstrous entity Chthon sinks back into the lava whence it rose, you grip the Rune of Earth Magic tightly. Now that you have conquered the Dimension of the Doomed, realm of Earth Magic, you are ready to complete your task.
You lend your voice to monsters or the player character.
Requirements: You have some way to record your voice, such as a microphone/headset and software such as Audacity. You are confident you can act well enough for a mod.
@GB - I could voice act for you. I have a good voice and I don't guess I need to tell you that I'm a character. I can also do a little better than audacity. I have real mics too. I also know how to mostly clean up audio, not perfect, but no harsh noise would remain.
send me a script. I could probably be all the male voices without sounding like the same voice over and over. I'm also capable of writing dialogue. If you need examples just open any of my posts that aren't a tutorial and there is probably an example at the bottom of the post.
You need a part where one guy calls another guy an idiot or tells him he is fired. I'm super good at that. It's my most practiced lines...
You are confident you can act well enough for a mod.
I can act well enough for an Academy Award. I've been practicing everyday for over 30 years.
When I went to Cali I had my girlfriends friends convinced that i was the most stereo-typical southerner that ever existed. I mean a real sister-fucker, accent and all. I drug that out for almost 3 months! When I finally let the cat out of the bag they thought I was just then pulling their leg cause I was so thorough in my character for so long.
awesome! I will work on it between no sleep and still awake . I'm excited. I loooooooooove to act/perform. Today I was young Hitler, preaching to the kitchen how It's all the Italians (my boss's race, actually, mine too) fault that we have no shrimp or catfish and how we must exterminate all the Italians to ensure there is shrimp and catfish for all.
It was a hell of a lot funnier than it sounds.
Edit: hey do you have a dem or something of the cut scenes that need audio? It would be a lot easier to voice act (proper timing and such) if I could see the characters that are supposed to be talking. Also, being able to see the characters will make it easier for me to create a personality/voice for them.
Thanks. Actually it's unlikely that ROEM will include any monsters that are not based on Quake. So there might be e.g. axe grunts or axe ogres, or even dragons, but no ghosts.
I decided to keep the mod pretty close to Quake, and do any crazy stuff in Scout's Journey instead. I have learned in the past that most Quake players have a conservative taste. So be it.
I could maybe help you with some of that as well. I don't want to make any promises cause my plate is already pretty full but, if I have time, I would like to help (beyond just voice acting)
You already know all the stuff I am capable of. If I was to help beyond voice acting, I have full faith you know enough about me to pick the right thing and that's how I would approach it.... gimme something. It's funner that way, anyway. I could be like an assassin. I open my mail and there is a job to do. I get a list of data and a primary objective. Then it's just up to me to go kill somebody, errr I mean make something .
I think any game designers or QC coders would have to commit "full time", since the RMQ codebase is very large and needs weeding out for this project - something that isn't easily done in an assassin style.
I wrote the job descriptions on the ROEM page for a reason.
ROEM will take many months to finish. Slow but continuous work is what's needed. Long distance runners more than ninjas.
Ok, I hear what you are saying. Don't forget, though. I picked apart the entire QC source with no help in like a week or something (I forget how long exactly but it was definitely impressively fast). I did the SMC even faster than that (many SMC's ago). I'm not volunteering to disassemble a gigantic codebase but, I definitely could AND retain most of it in my head for a very long time.
So, if it comes down that you need some code or code maintenance, there is no doubt that I could assassinate the piss out of it. However, I have come to learn that my style of QC programming is not native in any way. This is evidenced when I write a code example for someone that resembles a class and R00k or someone comes behind me and tells the person to stick 4 lines of code in an existing method.
So, in that sense, I may be the worst possible candidate to help you with QC. I can make whatever you want that is possible but, it will all be a "plug-in". This is all ramblings though cause, there is no way I could add another anything to my plate at this time.
