  • Rottweiler/Dog

A on and off project I've been doing. Never modeled a dog before so it's been a new area. This the the progress thus far. Have to edit the verticies as I did have him fairly high polygon and used a combination of DirectX Mesh tool and myself to drop the polygons to 1/10th of what they were. He's just a little over 1000 polygons. I am aiming at 1250 tops when I am done the model.

Yes it does. Went for how one would really look. As there isn't variations in the default Quake - chose Male simply due to Males constantly fighting amongst themselves.

You act like it's weird for male dogs to have penises.

Also, you gonna go for the bloody beaten look they have or just make them a tad rabid? I always envisioned a realistic quake rot to be extremely anemic.

That looks like a quality model, mines suffering form P.E.B.K.A.C right now (mouth modeling is hard enough). looking forwards to seeing it with some color!

I actually want to make it a zombie dog. I do want to have it "normal" first as I want to complete my first Canine ever. Then once it's done and UV mapped - adding details like a bite taken out of the side with exposed ribs is actually VERY easy - just by selecting current polygons - extruding them inward and skinning there. So once I get this going, a beta release would actually be a "normal" rottweiler. The final would be him gutted and bloody.

Nice doggy! I need one that's not quake's for obvious legal reasons for a stand alone mod sometime in the near future. I was going to try to knock one out in Blender once I get better with it. I like the start of yours so far. Nice work.

Well right now my time is very limited due to personal reasons.
I can actually provide you with what I have, so long as you UV map it and send it back
I have zero issues with people using my content, just so long as I get a mention.

Yeah that one does not help at all with this model. Splitting in half wont work. There's "insides" too. Like under the belly, the inside parts of the legs. The way they mention there would make the textures stretch under and above and then in insides of the legs will be the same as the outside.

not true. I used to think that too but it is all in how you cut your model (for one) and then how you place your vertices in the editor. You could make your dog 100% perfect in blender I would bet millions on it. The UV editor allows you to position polys over the image and resize them, there is no reason why there should be distortion cause you can literally tell each poly exactly what part of the image to display without effecting your model at all.

The example given is for noobs to blender so it is a simple example. What the example doesnt show you is that you can cut the model up as much as you want. You could mark a seam (on an edge loop) for the entire insides (to separate them from the model) and then make "pie cuts" so it lays flat cleaner. Then you could position the polys (via the vertices) however necessary to get the UV MAP perfect. Blender is super powerful and free, you should take the time to learn it. I got blender about 2 years ago and in 3 days I had a fully rigged and skinned original model with no prior 3D experience what-so-ever. Blender also comes with an entire game & physics engine installed. Code capable but not necessary.

I have a collection of tutorials, books and videos for blender that is massive to say the least. I could zip them up, throw them on a server and send you the link if you want. Collectively they cover everything from modeling, skinning, rigging, to animation, game development and more.

off to the right in the above image is the UV editor, you can position your vertices however you like without effecting the model.

Every Blender Book I have in .PDF format (108 mb)

I have like 2 more gigs of vid tutorials, if you need something just say so.
