  • My armor WIP

    Hi, everybody.

I recently joined this forum after playing through Darkplaces, and having fun blasting demons and what not in HD.

Now, I couldn't help but notice that all the models needed some polish as well, although the skins did quite the job already, some extra poly's should help. Thus, I took matters in my own hands. From before I have modelled a lot in Milkshape, which I have seen nothing but hatred for in a lot of threads both here and on other forums. So far I've only learned how to import the model to Quake (Darkplaces version), as I'm basically shit at texturing.

Here are a few pictures as "proof".
    Model made in Milkshape
Model exported in .3ds for GMax
Then the model is exported in .md3 for QME
And finally model exported in .mdl for Quake

Now wasn't that easy? No? I don't think so either.
Anybody up to skin this devil dog?

      That looks really good.

The thing is, I doubt that Nergal or someone else will make new hires textures for those ... skins are needed.

Yeh, looks good! I wonder if it's possible to use a different model for each armor..

          Entirely possible through QC editing.

I imported it into blender but when I uv unwrap it
It seems the model is maybe layered or built up?
If I move it parts are seperated as if the model were not solid.
I only marked 1 seam but got several.
exporting it looks like it may need to be scaled up as well.
I will toss it into 3dsmax soon and fart with it.

Not here Most of my content was done in Milkshape. The 2 mission pack weapon packs I did - about 80-90% of the work (model wise) was done in Milkshape

In Milkshape the whole model was one group before I exported it, don't know if the format I exported them in might have messed it up.

That's good to hear, I searched a while back on these forums for some tutorials on how to export properly, and thats when I found some "hate" towards MShape. Myself, I like to keep it simple, MShape has the features I need, I have no need to move to 3DS Max or whatever. Besides, don't know if I have the patience to learn another program

I got a better map from marking a verticle seam instead of the edgeloop I used in last try. Most likely both will need to be marked. Here is the new map with the details blown up.

Seems you could combine the results from both versions, to get a better map to work with?

I only got this far because I have been interested in uvmapping for a few months.
I have not done any texturing so thats a whole new thing thing to learn too.
Years ago I used to fool around with PovRay and used a program called reptile to generate the textures but I cant find it anywhere and is now a commercial product.I have wally and texmex but have not used these yet.
I was hoping someone else might use the uvmap and paint it. I will eventually get it done but no time soon.
