Hello,
It is interesting to see how some threads develop
There should not be a dispute about which game mode is the �best� (because there is no answer).
That was not my focus/idea.
We are all sitting in the same boat with a big-symbol on it
Yes, I am aware, that Quake is a single AND multi player game.
But as you know, there are already 2 very good player model replacements available.
So there is no need to make a 3rd or 4th one, does it ?
A big amount of Quake engines support .md3 replacement models, so you should have no problem to use those.
A different situation is for the single player mode of Quake:
Quake is not ID1 only !
Those 4 episodes are quickly played through, as you already mentioned.
You will find many many single player episodes/maps, that are without a doubt much better than the ID1 levels in every aspect:
Visit Spirits quaddicted page to see them. If you never played a map from those extremely talented map makers for Quake, you didn�t play Quake yet

And the best: New Quake maps are still made very regularly.
And for all those new maps, the replacement monster models will be used as well.
This thread is therefore focused on the monster replacement models that we do not have today.
The player model is already available as mentioned above, so it is not part of this vote.

Ruohis is a person who makes several variations for all his weapons during development.
Which is great because you can choose and pick your favorite ones and they still have the same quality-level.
There are also several other single weapon replacements by different authors (not a complete pack though).
Not to mention all the replacement skins for the original ID1 models, as you know�

the pics i showed are apparently from some gamed called grindquest.
never heard of it but i thought the pics looked epic, and would love the hellknight to get a look like that
abnd yeah i completely agree, if you enver played those awesome fan-made sp/coop maps you havent played quake. some of those are truely awesome and epic, and really well-build, sometimes with really awesome themes like the arabian styled map Avanipaala Praasaada, the medieval map a3 the journey home, and Temple of the Thousand-Faced Moon
everyone should really try the rquake coop server from polarite: flanders.quake1.net:26001

NEVER underestimate the importance of a consistant art style.
High detail models are not always high quality. A blocky model is still blocky even when the edges have been smoothed. You can't create detail by bluring everything.

That may be true,but whilst single player Q1 gets a good polishing, the Multiplayer section of Q1 continue's to be left behind.

You say that multiplayer has been left behind ?
How can you say this ?
Every single model that is used in single player is used in multiplayer too.
Except the monsters !
All the faithful art that has been made by Ruohis, Moon[Drunk] and other great artists can be used in your multiplayer world:
- weapons
- ammo boxes
- health boxes
- powerups
- world textures
- ...
All those things are also multiplayer right ?
And there is only one moving model in multiplayer: the player.
And as we mentioned 3 times in this thread:
There are already available:
- High Poly player models
- High Res skins for ID1 player model
So what more do you need ?

Multiplayer is in fact 100% completely done (replacement-wise).

Dear all,
Today I worked on the second winner of the poll: Knight
I could convert and implement a Knight model replacement and transform/rework its animations to match the Quake Knight Animations.
(I only replaced the "kneel" animation with a "Huuray" animation)
You do NOT need any QC change for this. It works with all engines and without mods.
He is finished (I only made some screenshots, no clip yet):
Next, until someone else with modeling skills is doing the Hellknight, which seems to be the winner of this poll, I will do implement this one as a Hellknight replacement for Quake.
Both models are from Dawn of Darkness, as you may have noticed.
If people are interested I can upload the reworked models for you.

Have to say I am quite surprised at some of the comments here. However Seven said it well.
HOW is multiplayer being ignored?
Ammo Boxes - work in MP
Powerups - work in MP
Weapons - work in MP
Projectiles - work in MP
Texture Packs - work in MP
Sounds Replacements - work in MP
Music replacements - work in MP
Modified Effects - work in MP (modified tags on models, or effectinfo.txt in Darkplaces -- which can be used for MP)
Texture Edits - work in MP (Reforged and others)
So tell me again; how is it being ignored?
There's hundreds of player skins you can down load.
There's various player models out there.
Many want monsters simply because they have a collection of high poly monster models but still are running around with half of them being low poly. It's kinda like playing DooM with half of them being 3D models and others sprites. Either way is great but honestly it's horrible having it 50/50. You want a complete pack. So people want their monsters to all be higher poly.
Also SP is basically a infinite experience like MP. Even the most basic QC edits can overhaul the game. Hell I have randomized monster groups and weapon groups (remember I have a mod where I have ID1, MP1, MP2 and Beta weapons in one mod). So every time I play a map the weapons and enemies are entirely different.
Then I have hundreds of other mods I can download; load up any map and look it plays entirely different.
Another thing is, I can look at various screenshots the MP crowd posts -- and they are basically using default everything. I really only see HUD and UI changes.
Now as for what I'd like to see -- I want to see a good Death Knight.

still working on another version of my effectinfo.txt compatible with latest version of smc, but your pace of the new versions releases really doesn't help. :-) and of course, i'm lazy.

without any model modifications.
That is a really cool thing. Especially when you look at the huge amount of replacement Q3 player models, that do exist.
So you can easily use a Quake 3 � Hellknight-like player model in Qrack without any hussle at all
Bluntz for example used that sexy half-naked female player model from Q3 in Q1 with your engine.

Yes, that Knight model is really good and also fits well into Quake. It is (compared to the ID1 model) much more detailed and has more polys,
but is not a �real� High poly replacement. Anyway, it has a smooth round body and face and cool animations.
It is a refreshing and welcome change/variation for the ID1 Knight.
It comes with 4 skins to choose from, which have a medium resolution.
The animations are also nice and bring variation with it. It was fun to transform them into Quake.
I sent you both the model (please check your pm). I hope you have fun some with it.
It is multiskin/multimodel ready.
Regarding the effectinfo.txt and �small mod compilation�:
Do not worry Jakub, the version V4.15 will not be replaced in the near future.
The mod reached a status with wich I am happy.
The only addition to V4.15 effectinfo.txt is the �spider update�, which has several additional effects for the spider,
as you already saw in the youtube clip.
The spider is a simple addon for V4.15 and not a standalone version. It would confuse people otherwise.
But I can only encourage you to try the spider. It has really many interesting abilities and its animations are really smooth.
There are almost 500 animation frames in it. It is a fast & mean beast and a worthy opponent
