I gave this another whirl by trying to attempt the first word and last word by itself ignoring the middle, as far as I can tell its impossible to solve without knowing some other information. (at least,solving with certainty)

I tried cheating by looking for QUAKE being a key to the cipher but none of those words feature a single use letter, so that was out the window. AFAIK anyone who ever writes a message using a cipher with an intention for another to read it, has the key. Anyone without the key isn't allowed to read the message. I think we are fitting that role nicely

There is no such thing as cheating when deciphering a cipher. As for anyone without the key not being able to read it, you had the key, you just seem to have lost it out your window

In general, no. Spaces are removed and then inserted at regular intervals, so that word length (and clues that may be derived from this) are disguised.

YES I SEEN THAT but it totally escaped me! I seen it on popular mechanics article!!

I totally want to set one of those up, except, it needs to be Quake related, if it was multiplayer based it would be even better

a spinning Quad or Pentagram probably would be where it hits that next level!!
