I did google it. There aren't that many pages about running darkplaces with an FX5500. Plus reading about an old post doesn't give me any context about its value vs. the current cards. I later found out from a friend that an FX5500 isn't what I want (he returned it the same day he bought it) so I purchased something else.

I don't think it is unreasonable to ask about others experiences when a small community and $$ is involved. I didn't have much time to research either. The day after I posted asking about the eVGA FX5500 the $15 rebate expired.

I dont think it's unreasonable either, but that's a very specific problem and meriting help.

Answering questions personally that have already been answered ten fold is what bothers me. If you had to give an answer to everyone who stepped in and said "HOW DO I PLAY ONLINE QUAKE KTHNX" you'd go insane.

Yeah, but that's what our help forum is for.

I don't care if someone asks the same question 1000 times, I will answer it every single time. If there is another thread on the topic, I'll post a link to it.

The way I see it, if someone is asking a question, the answer isn't easy enough to find.

To me, someone getting help isn't a matter of whether a question has been asked before, it is a matter of someone finding an answer.

I've asked questions to people who have answer the same question 1000 times. Everyone does. That's how people learn.

We made the guides and help forum section here (and the downloads section) to make it easier for people to find answers themselves, but there will always be questions and sometimes people who didn't find the answer.

Learning and laziness are two completely different things. I have to say Baker, you have a far greater tolerance for questions than I do. I always assumed that the foremost rule of forum questions is that if it's been asked before, it shouldnt be asked again. That's why we have the search function, or even better, google.
