    External USB Floppy Drive

    I was thining of getting an external floppy drive... so I have a few questions...
    Are these reliable?
    Can you do everything you can do with internal drives (bios updates, boot discs, etc)
    Will disks used in external drives work in internal drives?
    About how long do these last?

    Why not get a flash memory drive? One of those keychain flash storage devices, they are like $20 for 1 GB.

      well I'll look into that. My school probally has the usb locked down though.
      If I bought one of those I would need to reach in the back of my pc to plug it in though and I don't have enough power cables for one of those things that go in the front bay (or the money)

        If the USB is locked down, it would be locked down for an external floppy too I suspect (a guess ... I don't know anything special).

        I doubt a USB drive could boot a computer, the USB driver for the drive is for Windows and if you are booting -- well --- Windows hasn't loaded yet if you see what I am getting at.

        You can boot from a CD, btw (You might have to press F4 or whatever the key is to go to BIOS and set the boot order).

          FOQa get a USB extension cable!!! ehh i thought i heard about a way to boot from USB drive, like a year ago. not sure tho. maybe thats just something i made up for a customer

            8 inches is long enough. Its gonna sit on the top of my pc.

                  yes and they are more expensive and unreliable than cds

                    I like how when you customize a PC on sites like Dell they give you the option to remove a floppy drive and they discount the price of the drive ... $1 lol

                      Well, I would'nt buy it if my school didnt lock down the cd drives
                      I would just burn a cd with a file on it to print out at school, but I guess I need a floppy.

                            Heh, our school is too cheap to get microsoft office, we use openoffice :/
