Wow after going to the store and checking out the different players, the Zune is pretty cool. The Zunepad thingy is much better than the click wheel of the ipod. I think I'm getting a Zune
ive gone running with my ipod plenty of times. and dropped it all too often, it works fine. and you don't have to use itunes. theres tons of alternatives--just search web for itunes alternatives. for example, you can use winamp with an ipod plugin. but i'm not sure if any of these alternatives will also handle photos and videos--photos is one of the reasons i luv my ipod so much
stfu foqer. I've owned an ipod for like 4 years now and it still works 100% like the day I got it. Ipod isn't some cheap mp3 player that lasts 6 months.
i would not recommend any mp3 players at this point.
ipods or anything else. they are way too fragile. as they are hard drive based, any drop or hit to it, will cause it to go out of commission.
i even heard stories of it dying after 3 months of proper use.
i wanted to buy one for myself, but after i read many "horror" stories i was put off from getting it. it is simply not worth it to shell out cash for something that is not stable.
aside from this, the thing is virtually unusable, u can not put any "boot leg" or other wise illegal or downloaded songs on these players, which makes it very wack. u can only put music on these players by purchasing the songs from their "legally liscensed" websites, WHICH, listen to this u may have to pay an additional subscription price to be a member of with the additional cost of downloading each song.
if u really want a mp3 player get a sony cd player, with an radio tuner and built in mp3 capability (what i have) it is way cheaper and it will not break (mines was $60).
as for myself, i will wait until they have this technology perfected.
sorry tia but that post betrayed quite a bit of ignorance on your part. you can play mp3s that don't have any DRM on an ipod and every other mp3 player. what i think you're referring to here is the fact that with songs you bought on itunes you can only play them either in itunes or on an ipod (not sure if this is still the case, but it used to be). that is as far as it goes. and Jobs is trying to shift the industry away from DRM. as far as ipods breaking, i have dropped mine and bashed it plenty of times and, as i said, gone running with it plenty. some generations of the ipod are better than others. yes a cd player is perhaps more durable; but you have to keep a pile of cds with you, and if your cd player doesn't break then probably some of your cds will degrade over time; i dont see any major advantage here
my ipod had been in tons of rough collisions when I've been skiing and nothing, NOTHINGGGG is different about it. It's scratched up but that's to be expected. Still works like a charm.
I still prefer CDs over MP3s any day, because I'd rather listen to an entire album of one band instead of individual songs randomized with other music.

Umm make a playlist for your CD and play the playlist on your mp3 player? Or turn off shuffle?
The reason I want an mp3 player is I'm getting sick of hauling different CD's around everywhere I go. I love music and listen to it constantly. Every day at work I bring in a pile of CDs and it's getting annoying if I forget to bring one with me when I leave and I want to listen to that band!! lol
That's why I like MP3 players. I can listen to a whole album and pick out no more than 5 songs I liked. I don't like buying CDs cause theres probably less than 5 good tracks on it and the rest are just filler.
