Okay, I'm using Windows 7 (64-bit) version and I'll admit it feels alot better than xp. The only problem I am having is the mouse acceleration in Quake.
I turned off precise mouse sh!t, but in-game it feels like im drunk.

EDIT: I just downloaded the VISTA version of logitech's mouse software and it seems to have killed the acceleration

Tested windows 7 64-bit last night...

PQ 3.50 booted right up but was choppy bad choppy especially in fights. Like vid card chop

PQ 3.99 was smooth as can be, only complaint is i pinged higher on speak last night? Maybe cause of reroute or what have ya.

Edit: After testing it more and comparing it to XP I pinged 15-25 higher using windows 7 64-bit and it was jumpy on any Proquake client. After Switching back to my XP hard drive I had my steady 55-60 ping. Server was speaknow. So I guess I'm isnt ready fo no winnows sevin. It looks neat, my wife likes the fish!

Anyone running 7 now? I need some help and or Ideas.. I loaded the new release (Im an idiot should of stuck with xp) with a fresh install. Downloaded new device drivers. Everything in device manager is good. Surfing the net is fast. Quake in single player is great with every client. Max fps is 500. As soon as I join ANY server on any client and try to run it is extremly spikey. Watching the resource monitor my Hard Disk looks like it is maxing out every second. It's a sata drive with PLENTY of free space. CPU is only around 7% in use, memory around 13% and network seems ok. I am getting fed up with it. I've bypassed the router. Turned off firewall and windows defender auto updates cmon brains I know you can help meh.

ralph, did you try turning Vsynch off? I pinged +20 after switching to 7, but when I turned vsynch off, it went back to normal.

I donno about the chops, I get periodic chops here and there, but nothing major.

Running 64 bit Win7 right now, but this machine has incredibly poor 3D acceleration (even worse than the Intel 910) so I haven't really had a chance to do much with Quake. I'm going to be doing a 32 bit install on another machine later on, so we'll see how that one goes.

It's a nice OS for sure, and networking in general seems fairly fast on it. A lot of other CPU intensive tasks (audio editing being the main example I have) totally eat XP for breakfast; it's obvious that the newer architecture was able to pull off some significant optimizations (or cut through some nasty old bottlenecks), or maybe it's just being 64 bit. Me likey.

Was able to play a little last night running it from an external HD it was smooth but a little higher ping than used to. Vsync is off. Ive freshly installed quake and qrack twice and still too jumpy to play. It's like it is in slow motion with all the stops when I run. Going to install a new HD tonight and format it just for quake and going to recheck all drivers. I love the feel of Win 7. It is extremely fast surfing the web, and the new themes and shit are cool. I just don't like not being able to sit and frag for 20-30 spare mins

                      I got 4GB DDR 800 Ram
The E5300 Dual Core had it running at 3.9
(I reset my bios so I ran it default as well)
                      SAPPHIRE ATI Radeon 4870
Western Digital 160GB Sata 2.0 Hard Drive
(Bringing Home another hard drive to install quake to maybe having it on the same partition as the OS is causing this?)

Yah, MH, 64bit Windows7 works fine for me here. Im using 1gig mem intel 8500 cpu geforce 8800gt and the performance is great. I'm just having to tweak my mouse. I'm thinking of installing Kubuntu again on my other machine

Figure it's the crappy 3D card then (Intel 945, never gave good perf even on XP 32). Doesn't really matter as that machine is primarily used for audio editing (which 7 really was a worthwhile upgrade for), but it woulda been nice all the same to be able to do some Q1 action every now and then. But no big deal, and other Win7 machines are working beautifully, so no complaints!

Could it be that my isp is not ready for 7?? Could my dsl equipment need to be updated? My speed test has dropped I used to D/L 5-6m and U/L somewhere around 800K. Now Im stuck at 3 D and 400 up with windows 7. That HAS to be the problem right? My machine is same as when it was running xp. Windows 7 Quake single player runs fine if it was on my end then wouldn't single player be fuked too?? I mean it doesnt take a monster machine to run quake. What you guys think? Just call my isp saturday when Im home? I got ATT DSL no cable avail.

Could be a rogue NIC driver at work either. You might just need to tune some of the advanced properties to play nicer with your DSL so that you can get full speed from it. Could be worth a try.

The operating system shouldn't bugger your connection speed like that. Do you have any other computers you can test the speed on?
