Quake Compatiblity and Windows 7?

My first experience with 7 beta was on a completely different machine, but had the same problems. When I look at similarities in the machine I have/had same model motherboards (diff ones just same model). I installed a PCI 10/100 nic and my ping went to slightly above norm. Playable atleast so am happy

I'm wondering if it's the sound. Both Vista and Windows 7 have a very different sound implementation under the hood. It might be interesting if you tried it with -nosound.
