i just started playing quake and i've almost beat single player. i've played a couple multiplayer matches and all the people are super good any tips for playing better?

I dunno what to tell you there... what mod were you playing? DM? DM sucks cause the first team that gets weapons controls the map because a guy with a rocket launcher and armor can easily dispose of a guy with a shotgun and no armor... :/

Try my slide server, it's been seeing a good bit of activity. I just got it set up and I have upgrades coming

DM is the original quake foq, when quake came out DM was all there was. DM is challenging and you have to have a strategy going when you play it which makes it more skillful than any other mod. A true quake player is a DM player.

No, a true Quake player is anyone who plays Quake, wether they're rocking oldschool hardware like a PII and an old Voodoo card so they can run Quake with the origional opengl32.dll and plays strictly DM on ID1 maps only, or if they are connecting to a Runequake or FvF server with a PSP or Wii.

Yeah, DM has strategy, it's called run like a cracked out son of a bitch for the RL, get the powerups and destroy your hopeless enemies with quad RL while all they have is, at best, a SSG or SNG, and camp the good weapons and powerups and smack them down with RL every single time while all they have is SSG or SNG.

It's not to say that I do not enjoy playing other mods, but DM requires much strategy from all players. It's true that you have to collect the right weapons, power-ups, and be at the right place at the right time; which in most cases, discourages many players who only enjoy fully-equipped combat. In that case, these people mostly play clan arena. Let's just say that there is always a mod for everyone to enjoy.

Has anyone ever played Q-ball? It's similar to CTF, except there's no hook. I used to love playing that mod on Mplayer.com.

Speaking of other mods, I really wish the old school style "rune" quake was running somewhere...that mod only had four basic runes (Strength, Haste, Regeneration and I can't remember the last one). I have given the new runequake a shot and it just seems laughably bloated full of way too many runes & bs. Too much of a cluster fuck for me.
