You are calling China communist but everything that is sold in Walmart is made in China.Originally posted by the_f0qer View PostThey're still a communist nation, and we're celebrating 60 years since the communist party gained control of China. Why are we celebrating Communism here in (supposedly) free-market America? Why do we light up one of the greatest symbols of our power in tribute to Communism, much like an Atheist ornament on the top of a Christmas tree?
Either China is communist or it is free market; it can't be both.
China is free market.

This is just sad. Everyone here would rather tear a new one in me because I am opposed to DM3 force-fed to me when I want to CA or DM rather than stick to the (rather important) topic at hand.
Baker, just because 99% of the goods here in the US were made in China doesn't make China a free market economy. Communism means that the govt owns the means of production. The government owns everything. It doesn't mean that they're going to be an isolationist state and not sell thier goods to other nations.e|------------------------0---------------

Foq, aren't you one of the more out-spoken socialists on this board? I might be wrong but I think I've seen you in favor of government run/owned(taxpayer-liable) healthcare. That's one of the biggest markets there are. It accounts for what, 30%, of all money that exchanges hands in the U.S. That's only a few steps away from communism right there, but you're all for that.Originally posted by the_f0qer View PostThis is just sad. I'm sure some of those details are off, but the point is accurate. You can't be against communism and be in favor of government regulation/control of our biggest private sectors."When I was your age, we used to rocket jump all the way to school, up hill both ways - IN BOILING LAVA!"

Nope, you've got your statement backwards. I am very much againt government-run healthcare. I never have been for it.
Sure, health care for everyone sounds great, but not when it's going to cost 10 trillion dollars... which will double our national debt, and tax the living hell out of everyone who works.e|------------------------0---------------

These are specious reasonings. Damn near every other country has socialized healthcare and they are doing just fine.Originally posted by the_f0qer View PostNope, you've got your statement backwards. I am very much againt government-run healthcare. I never have been for it.

quite the opposite actually. do some open-minded googling on how well off those foreign socialized healthcare programs are doing. better yet, use some common sense. name just ONE government owned and operated venture that can be considered efficient or effective. Taxes? Education? Roads/highways? Judicial system? Welfare? Social Security? Social Services? the healthcare system is f'd we all agree on that, but the government is the last thing we want trying to fix something of this magnitude.Originally posted by Fuzznut View PostThese are specious reasonings. some things do require government regulation, this isn't one of them. the government can initiate a change, but it should not be the answer to anything. national defense being the exception that proves the rule.
and as it stands right now, there is no such thing as "inaccesible healthcare". it doesn't matter how poor you are. if you are injured or sick, hospitals are required by law, IIRC, to treat you regardless of income or insurance coverage (in the US that is). *can't remember if it's a law or not but i do know they can be sued for negligence which in the end costs them more money fighting the law-suit or worse yet, losing a law-suit than it would be to just go ahead and treat the uninsured, financially embarassed patient.Last edited by rev; 10-03-2009, 10:40 PM."When I was your age, we used to rocket jump all the way to school, up hill both ways - IN BOILING LAVA!"

I'm pretty sure your life must be in jeopardy before they are required by law to see and treat you.Want to get into playing Quake again? Click here for the Multiplayer-Startup kit! laissez bon temps rouler!

right, what other reasons are there to go to a hospital? a sore-throat? the sniffles? the wait at a hospital now is god awful, can you imagine if people went for every little symptom they have? that's exactly how it's going to be when healthcare is "free"."When I was your age, we used to rocket jump all the way to school, up hill both ways - IN BOILING LAVA!"
