However, there are certain situations where a big company like Google has actually improved the lives of people dramatically. I for one would be out of a job if it wasn't for Google, they have indirectly impacted my business entirely. I practically work for them through my clients. So while some people like you wish for Google to go down, your wishes would be influencing millions of lives negatively (people never put this into perspective - nothing against you personally), but often our desires are in direct conflict with greater influences.
Sure, they buy out nearly any relevant rising business in the online world, but they do it to maintain a competitive edge over other growing giants. I've seen shoddier companies in comparison. They treat their employees with first class, they offer great service to their customers, and they have the best algorithmic search engine in the world. They rebuilt their entire infrastructure using green energy, and they house thousands of employees world wide.
What is the problem? Because you suspect that they provide information to the government?

And think about that a little. "None of the search engines took search for information seriously". There were search engines, and they didn't care if their search was useful. That kind of travesty just shouldn't occur in modern history. This is why I hate monopolies. Yahoo was a virtual monopoly prior to Google, they sat on their hands.

It is thought they may be going out of business.

I got two blackberries that are within a year old, a Curve 9300 and Torch 9800. I got the torch for free because the curve has some software problem and my service provider was unable to fix it, so I took it to my local unlocker dudes and 25$ later all was good (turns out it was a branding problem).
