Shortly after World War 2, Germans were in a similar situation.

They used public parks for potato planting and stuff like that. And there was a sort of black market economy where you paid with cigarettes and probably a whole lot of other things as well.

Surprisingly, they got together and cleaned the place up.

It's a pretty interesting period of history.

we keep pounds of tobacco on hand, I can't afford the prices for the cigarettes now days. Fn insane

Barter/Trade is a requirement in an apocalyptic scenario ,because its going to be difficult to either have all the supplies needed all at once or / continue maintaining a stock of the supplies you need. As addictive as nicotene is, pfft. That shit's gold.

Apparently so. The internet seem to back this up from a variety of sources.

A few years ago I was in a discussion with someone on why we aren't using biofuels from corn. I was told the engines are harder to maintain because it doesn't burn cleanly (Brazil had experience at this at the time and they still do) and that the energy density would require a lot of corn and cost far more than one would think.

I'm still not 100% on this, though. The trouble with engines is getting the fuel to be totally burnt (which isn't possible), so ethanol being cleaner may be in some ideal circumstance, which won't happen in an engine.

I'm not any kind of expert on this subject. And they don't ever seem to make much progress on alternative energy

I guess you have never watched an old alcohol fueled dragster rip up the 1/4 mile
Not only is it cleaner,it is the only SUSTAINABLE fuel that uses basically the same infrastructure requiring very little changes to the system we have in place today.
The corn/food issue is just another straw man put in place to scare you as it is NOT the best source for ethanol, methanol or alcohol.Visit your local landfill and you will see what I mean as the methanol is burned off 24/7 as a wasted source.
