  • Do you believe in aliens?

I really think that aliens do exist... Earth is only one planet in a really big galaxy. There are trillions of galaxies out there (I could be wrong, but the bottom line is there are so many galaxies out there). Each galaxy has at least one planet.

Earth is the only planet with lifeforms? I find that very hard to believe.

Open discussion. What is your view?

As Enrico Fermi stated: ``Where is everyone?''

Now, the simple answer is no-one is there. The harder answer is that no society can arrive to a technological level to do interstellar travel because it collapse before. Just like us in few decades.

300 billion stars in Milky Way. Probably several million planets that could potentially support life.

Real question is how old does universe have to be before intelligent life really emerges.

Earliest stars were hydrogen / helium = no heavy elements. So takes possibly many generations of stars before heavy elements are available in mass quantities and galaxies and solar systems stabilize.

Then you have to have a way for planets/life to mature. Earth is 5 billion years old and only now is there technology.

Eventually, regardless of the barriers, we'll be sending stuff to other solar systems but due to challenges will this be 200 years or 20,000 years and how quick will trip be (determines what we send ... i.e. robots, probes).

Aliens? Seems likely. Aliens that have been here? Hard to say.

Simple answer. No I do not believe in aliens. Simple reason, I have never seen one, so in my opinion "seeing is believing".

Of course they exist. It's monstrous arrogance to assume otherwise; everything in history has taught us that the words of Douglas Adams ("a small unregarded yellow sun...an utterly insignificant little blue green planet") or Carl Sagan ("we live on an insignificant planet of a humdrum star lost in a galaxy tucked away in some forgotten corner of a universe in which there are far more galaxies than people") are quite true - everytime we think that one culture, or humanity, or Earth, are somehow unique, we ultimately learn that the opposite is in fact true. No reason to think otherwise with regard to this topic.

I also believe that the universe or even the milky way is full of life forms. We learned recently that life can exist even under really hostile conditions. Perhaps even in space.

I don't believe in little green men, but life outside Earth, definitely.

somewhere sure there is other life. it would be nonsense to think that there isnt some planet or such anywhere else where life came into being just like on earth.

if we ever find it... mebbe, mebbe not.

but aliens like you see in movies and games and such... cmon seriously you kidding me.

but im sure there would be life somewhere else, how big are the odds that earth is the only planet in existance where theres life? especially seeing space is endless and theres gazillions of stars and planets and moons and suns and such. im sure somewhere else the conditions mustve been just right for life to come into existance.

mebbe they are very undeveloped, mebbe if we ever find some we might even find a much more evolved race which is way ahead of us.

but i dun believe bs like sending radio signals out in space or such.
like cmon... what makes humans think they are so awesome that if another race somewhere out there in space made some way to coomunicate they mustve made the exact same way of communcation?
                      .
are you curious about what all there is out there in terms of HD content for quake?

Of course there are aliens. The notion that earth is the only planet with any form of sentient life in the entire universe is downright laughable. As for how they look or act, that's anyone's guess.

Have they've been here? I seriously doubt they could travel even close to our solar system unless they are already nearby.

The fact that we exist is astounding in itself, now when you extrapolate that to billions of galaxies filled with trillions and trillions of stars, different solar systems, etc; you can see how there may be more than one planet that's habitable and more than likely has alien life forms.

They've already found a star which closely resembles Earth and they believe it is habitable:

NASA finds new planet Kepler 22b outside solar system with temperature right for life - The Washington Post

Again, comprehending our sole existence as a specie, the fact that we have numerous specie with us which are not human (why are these not referred to as "alien"? - animals etc), should help people open their mind that there is a high likelihood there are many alien life forms in other galaxies.
